I was down our grass range this morning chipping around the green when my mate
turns up and starts whacking his balls on the green.
Trust me when I say this he is wild so I walk towards him and ask him to take less club.
I suggest an 8 iron as the range is 170 and he tells me that's what hes using.
So me being untrusting I walk over and he shows me the 8.
The irons he was using are ci11s[Wilson].
So as I play with him a lot I ask him how far he hits his wedge and he tells me 120.
So I give his 8 a couple of goes and I hit the green on the fly both times.
Does anyone have any idea why the difference between his wedge and 8 is 50 yards.

Do the irons have stronger lofts??? I really rate Wilson staff gear. I have an old battered dh6 hybrid thats safely the best htbrid ive ever hit.

Ooo-errr on reading this, and having only just acquired a sparkly new set of Wilsons after playing with an old set, I had better get out tomorrow and get the distances calibrated before I play with the society next Friday and spend all day shouting Fore!!
:one:

Yeah im sure the wilson ci11 are 2-3º stronger than standard.

Most new irons are like that now.

Standard 3 iron is 21º and the taylormade rocketbladez 3 iron is 17º. Pretty much a 1-8 iron set stamped 3-pw

The Ci11 are also slightly long shafts than standard which adds club head speed. The combination can make a club difference or maybe even more.

The gapping is still quiet even so if he really is putting an 8i 170yards and only managing 120 with his Ci11 PW then something is wrong with technique. That 8i distance (assuming some roll out) is putting him up there with PGA tour averages.

Stronger lofts are not the case throughout the Wilson Staff range.

FG Tour V2; 3 iron 21* to PW 47*.

Jacked up lofts seem to be standard though in Game Improvement irons from all manufacturers.

I believe he hits shots the same whatever the club.
There was no roll out of significance .
I even hit it 170 myself.
It just seems a massive difference between the wedge and 8 however you
look at it,wether its loft or the way its being hit.

I use the Di9 irons myself, and find that they are the same! My PW is 42.5*, which from what I could gather is more 9i loft territory!

Having had a quick search, I found this online:

I thought Wilson were one of the first to crank their loft a little stronger. At the end of the day though, and it's an argument on here before, as long as you know how far you hit each one, the number on the back is immaterial
