Just been to my local American Golf at the driving range trying out some irons, really liked the Wilson Di7's, just wondering what you guys thought? Have found them £50 cheaper on the web :)

I won't comment on the clubs as I've never tried them.

However if you've had good service and you're happy with the advice that the guys at AG have given you. Buy the clubs from them. You've used their time and experience in finding these clubs, I think that you should at least buy them from them. Then when you go back for fairways, drivers, putters, balls, etc, the staff won't just blank you as a time waster that's only 'tyre kicking', because you then go and buy on-line.

Heart felt plea from a specialist sports retailer.

NQT.......Get fitted for them, they are 1/2''longer tan standard and the 6 plays as a 5.S.W.M.B.O.bought me them for Xmas lst year (without my knowledge)and they took some getting used to until I went and got fitted! What a difference that made!
Now I sometimes love them and sometimes they love me!!! :)

Had a set approx 18 months ago. As mentioned they basically stamp their 6 iron as a 7, 7 as an 8 and so on. Makes you think you're hitting the ball further etc.

Overall not bad clubs, sole width was too thick for me and they didn't feel too good off the face.

However, this is just my opinion and there are plenty more who will say only good things about them.

Basically if you like them and are happy go get them. Probably get somne good deals around as Wilson is releasing the new Di9 irons.

As for using AG, some good - some bad points. It's always nice to hit the clubs off grass before bying, failing that a proper range and only after that a net in a shop.

Good luck with what ever you choose.

John.

Hapless..I'm sort of with you on this one!But still believe in buying from our pro, although S.W.M.B.O. still buys my clothing from EVILBAY(despite me telling her not to!!)
THE PRO SAYS HE WILL GIVE IT a good go at price matching, but lets face it it does'nt always make sense! :D

I just can't get enough (ooh, Depeche Mode...there's an 80s band) of the Wilson kit....me likee a lot. Di7....cracking.

i.m.o. I'd get them from a shop or pro. You're not gonna feel so smart if you break one or discover you should have gone for Custom Fit. I appreciate your situation but if you're going to splash serious cash, better to have the back-up.

Think you should really get them from your pro or AG. As mentioned, a purchase of that size normally means that when you go back with repeat business other discounts (or the odd freebie sleeve of balls etc) will come your way.

Good irons and you can get a great deal on them with the Di9 soon to be released, get them from the pro.

Just started playing and these are the clubs i got.
Find them really easy to hit but felt a little cheated after finding out about the lofts.
Still a great club and as said earlier some good deals going about.
Got mine from AG and been in since and got great service and advice.
Hope you get clubs to suit you whatever you go for :)

I've just replaced my John Letters Trilogy irons with a set of these. Spotted the clubs at our local club a couple of months ago, they felt (and looked) really good so decided to take the plunge. I found a really good price online for a set with graphite shafts (£229.00 brand new) so took the plunge.
Played my first round with them on Thursday, they do feel totally different to the Trilogy's, especially the shorter irons. Really struggled for the first few holes, hitting lovely drives but then cocking my approaches up. I think it was a combination of the new clubs and me being too eager to see where the ball was going...forgetting basics!!
Towards the end of the round I was hitting them better. One particular par 4 which is relatively short, but the tee shot is a little tricky. I usually hit a 5 wood from that tee to play safe, but decided to give the 4 iron a try. Jeez it left the tee like an exocet and had a lovely shape to it. One of the nicest tee shots I have hit down there for a long time!
I don't get to play as often as I like nowadays due to work restrictions but I hope to get out a few more times before the really bad weather kicks in. Fingers crossed I will get to like these clubs because they do look really nice set up behind the ball and are very confidence inspiring.
Will keep you posted on how I get on...
Rob
