Does anyone know of anywhere where I can pick up a cheaper version of the above putter?

I'm looking for a classic style blade putter (just to try out) and was wondering if anyone had seen anything similar on their travels.

Cheers,
Redwood

I seem to say the same thing every time a thread like this comes up, but there's loads on ebay. Im watching a Wilson 8813 and i've seen loads of different models with brass heads aswell as steel ones.
I have a Tad Moore TM-6 which is a lovely stick to use on fast even greens, they feel lovely. I have now restored mine and polished it up, it looks great too.

Cheers.

Yes, I've checked Ebay and don't want to pay either $500 for the Scotty, or £150 for the Wilson, although I must admit, I had seen the 8813's but they looked a but battered.

I'll carry on searching.

Lee, what are you thinking about man.
You've got a brilliant putter in your bag already.
Buying a new one isnt going to make you a better putter. Sorry :(

Bob,

I'm not expecting it to make me a better putter, it would probably do the opposite. I'd just like to try one of the older style bladed putters, which is why I was after something cheap.

I love my Redwood, and certainly wouldn't consider ousting it for a blade putter!! :)

I have an old Lynx parallax bladed putter in the wardrobe. It used to be in the bag (for 10 years). I also had a Scotty circa 62 No.1 for a while too (about 3 years). They look nice, but are very, very unforgiving to use. I now use an Anser style Scotty, which has that bit more forgiveness.

I would steer well clear. Even for practice. It will just shatter your confidence.

I disagree, I have used mine on the practice green and to get a good roll you really do need to stroke it nice and smooth and make every contact on the sweet spot, it cant do much harm in practice can it. Also, when I have used it I have felt very confident and probably sunk more putts than with my other putters, I just haven't played on good enough greens to dare put it in the bag yet.
I say get one.

I have a snakeyes viper tour 1 putter which is a traditional blade model and I think is a beautiful putter. I bought it for £50 from snakeyes direct. The only bad thing was the grip seemed to wear away quite quickly.

As I say, I played with an out and out bladed putter for a number of years, and changing to something just a little bit more forgiving was a revelation. I have a pretty solid putting stroke, but for me, this sort of putter is for pro's only, and you don't see many of them with them either. If I try my Lynx now, I am amazed how few I get out of the sweet spot, and all it does is make me think about my stroke, when according to Rotella, I should be thinking about holing out. A confidence wrecker.

I have got on better with heel shafted blade putters (some with flange, some without flange) than any mallets or heel/toe weighted putters. I have tried everything.

I had an Wilson 8802 and liked it, the Never Compromise flanged heel shafted one I have currently feels wonderful, really looking forward to getting on a real green with it. It's a nice weight and is a bit forgiving with the flange helping to stabilise the head.

Good putting is all about confidence and not over analysing putts. Just try lots and lots of putters of varying lengths and weights using different stances until you find one that you are confident with.

Breathing correctly, i.e. breathe out when making the stroke makes sure you aren't tense in the stroke.

Great putters like Loren Roberts and Ben Crenshaw use(d) simple putters.

Yes - Sophia

Not sure how much it was selling for but def under £100.
I love my napa but pointless until you get some decent paced smooth greens. Enjoyable clubs to use.

The Sophia looks great but not sure how you feel about grooves on a putter.

You'll need a good stroke with them and if you do I wouldn't be so sure about keeping the redwood in the bag, nice putter though.
