Just a little heartwarming story resulting from an acquaintance made via the forum. I first met Billy a couple of years ago when I traveled to Goswick to play golf with him while he was holidaying there. We've kept in touch & I've done him a couple of favours using my modest Photoshop skills.

My wife is very partial to Tunnock's Chocolate Teacakes but shortly after lockdown these became unobtainable. I found out that this was because the factory in Uddingston had been closed down temporarily to protect the workers. Later, I noticed from his profile that Billy lives in Uddingston & I jokingly asked him if he could obtain some teacakes for me. Turns out that he has a friend who knows Boyd Tunnock, the 87 year old proprietor of the company and, as a result, some teacakes are winging their way to me now.

Thank you Billy, much appreciated. My wife is forever in your debt.
 
The Tunnock's Caramel Log is my favourite biscuit. Unfortunately these have also disappeared from the shelves round here. The Caramel Wafer is available, and is nice, but the Log is different class.

Weirdly out here in the middle of the ocean I have never had a problem getting Tunnocks Caramel Wafers, in the predominantly French/Asian owned supermarkets... but I have never seen the (superior) Tunnocks Caramel Log being sold here :cry:

The teacake is far superior to the caramel wafer!

Nice story, haven't noticed any shortage of Tunnocks products up here over lockdown, maybe Scotland was prioritised by Tunnocks for distribution?

Is the caramel log the one with the coconut on the outside? If so would agree that is the superior Tunnocks product. Teacakes are not in the same league but we always seem to have some in, mrs buys them as the kids like 'em.


Only things I've noticed that really took a long time to come back into stock were yeast packets and raisins, finally got some yeast packets in Tesco for breadmaking only a couple of days ago.
 
I don't like coconut, but the good lady does. We both like Tunnock''s products so she eats Snowballs and Caramel Logs, whilst I eat Teacakes and Caramel Wafers. Simple! (Another great export along with Irn Bru)
 
We sat at the table next to Boyd Tunnock and his family at a Dumfries House dinner a couple of years ago, they were really nice folk.
His Bentley has a wee Tunnocks Caramel Wafer sticker on the bumper, looked quite cool.:LOL:
