Willett doesnt want to play golf

He needs a holiday, put the clubs in the garage and forget about golf for a bit. I thing becoming stale must be a constant issue for golfers, all pro sportsmen to be fair, particularly after a long season.

Can totally relate, more important things taking up his time.

Yes it's his day job but he has to be doing it well.

Take some time offf and come back when mentally ready.

He did an interview in May / June time where he said he was due to take a month off after the Masters, but winning it meant his month off was all press & sponsor events. Where he wanted to come back ready for the next 3 majors feeling refreshed he didn't get that opportunity.

I'm sure it was on Sky Sports, the first tournament he played when coming back after winning the Masters.

So I'm not surprised he's thinking about being off the course!

There are 2 types of major winners in this world

1. Break the duck and then pushes on and focuses them (bit like DJ)
2. One hit wonder who never quite reach the same heights

willet is in danger of becoming the later

It is usually the ones that were punching above their weight that fade away and IMO he did and has been left with no where else to go as he is not winning another ever.

My heart bleeds for him - not.

The rest of us have to keep working and get on with it for a paltry sum, not millions. He would never hack it as a teacher!

Some tough comments here. I think it was Bubba Watson that said the year after he won took it out of him and he found it hard to play, complete sponsor demands and carry on travelling on the tour. I hope Willett can take a break over Christmas and the new year, find a spark and come back next season. Let's not forget the RC and the circus his brother created is always a tiring week and coming on the back of the Masters win I can see why he feels burned out. I don't necessarily he's handled it well in the media though

There's a lot of grumpy old buggers on here today.

To play sport at the highest level requires such a huge mental and physical effort. If he feels that he can't bring that to the party, then stopping completely and giving himself a chance to regroup seems a perfectly sensible approach. If he just keeps playing he's just going to get more tired and more disillusioned.

Also don't get the 'he gets paid plenty' comments. He's just a human being, being paid more doesn't make him less tired. If I paid you more could you run any faster?

Willet does always come across as a rather grumpy Yorkshireman

id like to see him push on but I dont know if he mentally has it

Dont feel sorry for him as such but like other sportsman it must be hard to relax at times when everything you do is in the media.. then you have to ply your trade every weekend.. travel around.. hardly take time off really (even in football the off season is about a month)

dont get me wrong they are all paid handsomely but must be mentally straining

If he is that tired he could take a week off. Most of us don't have that option though.

I know he up near the top of the game but I bet he puts a heck of a lot less effort in than the likes of Andy Murray.
