Seven months on from its release date and I’m yet to have a go with the SLDR Mini. Of the numerous new product launches this year, this shiny stick is the one I am still eager to try.

Driving for me this year has been hit and miss, when it’s on, it’s great, when it’s not, it’s Squirrel country. Distance isn’t a problem (this is the GM forum of course) but accuracy is erratic. Too many shots wasted chipping out sideways or bailing out of thick rough.

So for the SLDR Mini users out there, is the club still living up to the hype? Do you frequently use it off the tee? Has it killed your driver? Is it all jst marketing guff and not that exciting? Has it killed any squirrels?

Much obliged and Merry Christmas

I have not used one either but what you describe above kinda means it wont help you. If its about sometimes being left or right no club can help with that, its just about face and path.

Boo, play the game! But yes, I know it's the Indian, not the arrow, but there's no fun in that...

I've had one hit with one, and it went great, but do I need one?

I'd struggle to find a place for it in my bag. It wouldn't seem right taking the driver out as on some holes I want as much distance as I can get, and the size of it would give me less confidence off the fairway compared to my 3 wood.

It felt really nice, went really well, and if there were no limit on the number of clubs in the bag I'd have one. As it stands though, it can't replace anything I already have.

I guess what I think would be better than a "mini driver" would be: Buy a cheap 2nd hand 12* driver... chop it to whatever length the mini is and you have made something better... Its still a HUGE 460cc but has loft and a shorter shaft. I am not sure how making the head smaller is an advantage.

I've tried it a few times, never on a course only range/simulator and it was fine, my 3 wood is probably my favourite club so it'll take a miracle to get rid of it now.

Depending on what you want the mini for, big headed 3 wood, in which case you will have to be able to use it off the deck which is difficult enough to do consistently.

If it's to use solely off the tee then you'll have to take gapping into consideration

I bought one a few weeks ago off ebay, brand new for about £85, but haven't hit it yet.

Hoping to give it a go tomorrow or Wednesday at the 'range and will let you know

I had one this summer & I miss it:(

It's pretty long and more accurate than my driver. I'm going to get another.

If distance isn't a problem then it can help you with the odd errant tee shot.

Was thinking of trying one.

Went to the range with my mate who doesn't play and he borrowed some old clubs from the pro shop, he picked up this junior driver not knowing that it was junior but I had a go with it and it was so nice to hit!

Was like a small driver head with a 3 wood shaft and I couldn't not hit it straight. Been thinking of trying to mini with a cut down shaft to get the same sort of club. Bit of an expensive experiment tho if I don't like it.

Tried one at the range earlier in the year, I know it is horses for courses etc. but I found it not better than my 3 wood, in the end I went to a 12* driver with a 45" shaft. Doing OK with this, not really lost much distance but find I'm so much more accurate.

As mentioned no club will fix a slice / hook, but the extra loft adds a little forgiveness

Which driver did you go with? I'm all for a shorter shaft....ooh er Mrs...

Hit a demo and to be honest the bad ones were almost as bad as a normal driver and still in squirrel country. I'd prefer to use my own Ping G25 standard and learn to hit it better. One of the goals for 2015

If your looking for a replacement off the tee, then it's worth a look. Mine is a lot more consistent and pretty long. I can't hit it off the deck for toffee though, so still use a 5 wood or 19 deg hybrid....

I'm rubbish off the tee, usually go with the hybrid. Always carry the bigger clubs, either the mini or a callaway xhot driver. Both normally pulling tongues at me :ears:

however, the mini is easier to get away. So much so that the xhot hasn't had an outing for a good while. I'd wouldn't ever dream of hitting it off the deck though.

Thought a 'mate' had smashed yours up....;)

Dinted and scratched in a coming together, shall we say (the guy in question has now been thrown out the club, I'm told it was an unrelated incident but I'm not so sure )

looks great from above, the underneath is a different matter!

I'd still like to try the Mini (especially since I use a 10.5 Cally Diablo cut to 43" at the moment, or my Cobra 3w which is the same length, I think it would be good to compare the three)

Only one shop round here has a Mini but might be worth the hours drive to give it a swing one of these days
