Ok..... Having read all the replies to my post and currently there is yet another Post about slow play.......Is it always going to be a thorn in everyones side as much as say Bandits in golf clubs......

While i can take on board people telling me to make a formal complaint and my opinion being of the falling on deaf ears variety..... I think and im sure most will agree...Every man and woman and their dog on this forum has posted about slow play at their club at one time or another....

My opinion for what its worth.... People will never change..... There will always be ignorant golfers as there will be bandits at golf clubs.....

People can only change if there are those prepared to educate and enforce the rules. We don't have a course marshall but if we did they would only need to go to one group on a Saturday as there are the ones who hold the place up week in week out. It has almost become some kind of badge of honour and they know they are doing it and refuse to change. I put it in writing, before the new GM arrived and nothing got done. I am tempted to do so again if the problem continues. Not to get them banned, but so that they can have the issues they are causing explained to them. Perhaps that way they will change although I doubt it.

See this just solidifies my point Homer....... You shouldn't have to go to the trouble of wording a letter just because these muppets cant stick to the course etiquette......
As you have already done....Whats the point in wasting more time and more ink if nothing is being done about it.....it seems in this day and age that having a course ranger would be like the golf clubs equivalent of living beyond their means.....

Which is a shame... Because it looks like they are more of a requirement now than they ever will be.

A decent course marshal telling people "Let the guys thru behind if they catch you up" will solve the problem in about a week

Do most courses have marshals?.... nope.

Exactly my point James..... I suppose its another expense they need but wont get.......

And i also think that they should be the Grumpiest , Crankiest , Sourest , Musclebound Ogre that you could meet.... The grumpier the better....

We played a mixed open today and it was 3 hours for the front 9 and 5 1/2 hours for the round - much of it in pouring rain.

There was a marshal who was driving round mentioning the slow play but not doing much about it! The group in front had lost at least a hole and we heard later an earlier group had lost 2 (the marshal told another group as much)...

A few groups walked in but we were scoring well so carried on and glad we did - 41 points and runners up on countback again. That's 5 mixed opens we've lost out on countback but have decided not having to make a winners speech aint so bad and the prize for 2nd is still tidy!

Most maddening thing about it is no ones saying you have to rush,if you want to take 4hrs+ for a round that's fine, just have the decency to wave some one through if they're playing at a faster pace than you.
