I've never been a fan of this course, as has been overpriced, suffered from poor drainage and with the introduction of 9 new holes (making 27), has led to waits on the tees as golfers swap courses to complete their 18.

I played the course again, after a couple of years break, yesterday. I am pleased to report that it appears money has been spent on the course, tidying up the tee and practice areas, thinned out the waste scrub and good attention payed to the fairways as they were lush. Price was good at £20; guessing it was a twilight rate. You still have three sets of 9 holes, so I guess the queues at cross over will still exist at peak times.

Although not perfect, it has now reappeared on my list if courses worth considering. Good to see as the infrastructure was always there but was seriously underwhelming.

I remember the difficult "birth" of Wildwood when I lived in Cranleigh. Debentures that were supposed to fund it all and then possibly provide a return for those that invested - all that kind of thing. Ewan Murray suggested it was going to be a world-class course and all the rest.
There was chat about £50-100 green fees and those that got in early selling on their debentures for many thousands etc.etc.

I always wondered what had happened to it.

Thanks for posting.
