I have lived in Wigan for nearly 25 years and have played golf for 8 of those.

However i have never played Arley Hall

But having just bought a house that is less than 5 minutes walk from the club house, i am seriously looking into joining from next year.

I am trying to arrange a taster round for next week some time (they have just tine'd the greens today) but wanted any info that anyone thought pertinent.

Im currently up at Chorley and happy (by and large....), however the convenience of WGC and turned my eye. I could literally stagger home from the club house when ever i wanted. I could even nip for a quick 9 holes most evenings whilst the wife makes my Tea (possibly..)

Any thoughts?

I have a mate who is a member who has invited me to play may be 6 times.
Nice track, the new 9 holes have settled in more now with some nice water hazards. Greens get good too.
Think clubhouse is quite formal at times too.
But it does have a moat around it and black swans not many clubs have that.

Pm Bluewolf, he resides in skem but claims to be a Wigan boy, born and bread.

I played there once last year around April time. The course was wet, really wet. 2 of the greens where on temps. And the was a hole early on missing out, I think they where making a new par 3??
Other than that it was a nice enough course (iirc) seemed a bit upperty to me, but that doesn't take much :p Staff where friendly enough, it never had a club shop just a vending machine!

it think if it was me, I'd have a look elsewhere before committing.

hope any of that helps

I was worried about the drainage as my old course (Haigh Hall) is only around a mile away and is boggy as hell in the winter.

No members on here then?

Ill probably play next week and then toward winter, just to see what the drainage is like.
Alright mate, just seen this. Just a word of caution. I've been hearing some fairly poor reviews of Arley recently. Money cut from the greenkeepers budget resulting in poor conditions. Not very active on the comp side either. Don't know if any of this is true as I haven't played it for many years, but something to think about when you play.
Always welcome at mine for a knock if you'd like?

I still need to get you up to Chorley first pal. Mind you at the rate my game is declining recently i might have to keep incognito for w wee while longer!

My only reasons for moving would be the distance (the house i have got is in Worthington park) and the fact that Chorley is a nightmare trying to get on the Comps. Its busy at the moment and i would not mind a little Millionaires golf now and again.

Still, Chorley is a nice track and i could really be doing without playing in a bog during the winter...

Hows Dean Wood treating you?
