Why would someone do this? West Lancs GC

Seen on twitter that some vandals have been tearing up West Lancs GC on (what appears to be) motorbikes.

Apparently 2nd fariway and green, 3rd tee and green, 4th fairway and 4th green have been cut up.

I just don't get the mentality of some people.

Someone did the same thing to our 18th green and 3rd fairway last year, must be from the same batch of idiots.

I think that youth's (that's probably what it was) have no appreciation of the amount of damage they are doing when they do this sort of thing.

To answer they op.....they did it for fun. If they realised what damage they were actually doing then it's unlikely that they would do it. Having been a Motocross riding youth in my past way before I appreciated golf, I can appreciate the lack of understanding.

Most likely joyriding on stolen motorbikes. Cross and trials style bikes seem to be a very hot target for theft and joyriding recently. Not sure what the police can do, they get stolen and discarded faster than they get reported. If someone reports people thrashing around in places they shouldn't, the police can't catch them as it's easy to evade capture on a bike like that.

Only form of justice seems to be when one of the culprits kills themselves in the act like what happened near here last year.

Our 14th was damaged last week by bikes , this is the first time it's happened. I just hope its a one off and not a growing trend.

Correct a Motocross rider will go to a proper track, but as I say they probably don't understand the damage that they are causing and most people grow out of it. It's just a shame that it only takes one numpty to cause so much damage.

I think they are fully aware of the damage they cause and that's what they enjoy about it.

Does not always have to be bikes either.

Only a few years ago we had some idiots do handbrake turns on one of our greens. Never caught so we can only speculate as to their reasons.

Before I bought a house and started playing golf I had no appreciation as to how much work goes into making greens as perfect as they are. I'm sure some teenage idiot doesn't either.

n.b. I am not defending the actions and they should be locked up for it.
