The computer and handicap committee look back over all of your cards handed in press a few buttons, crank the handle twice. pretty straight forward really.

Perhaps they read your target for 2010, and thought they didn't like a clever dick. :D

Brendy has pretty much got it in one

The clubs do an annual review and anyone who clearly needs a handicap adjustment, up or down, will be assessed at the review.

So - you my friend were considered a bandit!

Sorry to hi-jack the thread but I have a question.

Last year I took a year off playing golf and didnt join any club. Now that I have joined somewhere what the best way to get my handicap back as tbh, I can't be arsed handing in 3 cards and want my old h-cap back.

Either just wait and hope the county sort it out as I was a category 1? Or try and get a handicap certificate from my old club (If they have me on still on the system??)

Matt

I gave it up for 6 years and had no probs going out and putting my first three cards back in for my h/cap which put me right back where I was when I gave it up at 6. Lack of practice etc has hurt that though, now in the low to mid realms of 8. something.

I'm not too sure there is much point in waiting for your old club to confirm your handicap to save putting 3 cards in. Your handicap will probably be considered "inactive" if you havn't played in a competition within the year. With an "inactive" handicap you will have to put 3 cards in to play competition golf anyway

When i rejoined a club 3years ago, i hadn't had an active handicap for nearly ten years. Pro asked me what my last handicap was, and that was what i was given. If i had handed in three cards i'm sure it would have been much higher.

the Congu decisions on "active" and "inactive" have only really been in force over the last year or two. It was designed to stop people only playing in competitions (like pairs knockouts) where handicaps didnt get altered for people doing well. They felt some people were abusing the system and were winning comps off false handicaps where they never put cards in as individuals.
