Dishwasher is on the blink, so thinking of getting a new one. AO.com had some good deals on Bosch, but they wont install the integrated dishwasher. So thought of looking whats available locally.

An 'family owned' appliance store on the highstreet does a different Bosch model + £85 for a kitchen fitter to fit it in and recycle etc. So I asked them if I get my own appliance, can they send someone to fit it. Answer: NO. Our kitchen fitter will fit only what you buy from us. So checked their Bosch model, looks like an entry level model while the AO is higher spec with slightly higher price. Not sure why the high street store said no to £85 quid for about an hour's work. Anyone see a reason why the high street is limping towards the grave?

Edit: Just found out John Lewis will fit and recycle for 85 quid too.

Have you got an Euronics store near you. Ours deliver and fit foc and charge for taking away the old one is £20 I think.

Yup we do... the 85 came from them... Also Euronics does not do too many integrated D/Ws

I expect they dont want to fit it as they dont want you coming back to them if there is a problem with it if they havent sold you the machine.

As for the high st in general, Im a very infrequent visitor, went into central MK today, didnt come close to getting my wallet out of my pocket, went into several shops only to be totally ignored (when decent service could have got them a decent sale in a couple of shops). Probably cutting off my nose to spite my face but cant stand getting no service and then spending decent money, will try elsewhere in the next few days

Perhaps the fitter is not employed by them and is a local independent fitter. They offer the service to get the sale and pass on the fitting to him at a pre negotiated rate?

Tamworth high street is going down hill fast. So what do they do to attract people back from a local retail park????? Double the cost of parking to £3 minimum stay:confused:

I think so too. Having said that, some fitter does not make the money and they dont continue to pass him more business.

Our high street is thriving..Lots of cafe culture (drinking outside, albeit frosty jack on a bench)...Awash with busy betting shops.
Cash converters are doing brisk business..(I even managed to buy back my stolen TV from a similar store at a knock down price)..Finally for clothing, high street fashion choice has never been better with the number of chariddeee shops, the choice of clothing is amazing...;)

Find a local independent kitchen fitter and find out what he charges to fit a dishwasher ( he may even be able to get your D/W cheaper at trade price ) or get one yourself and fit it .

Lots of stuff on you tube to help.

Good luck.

I bought one recently and fitted myself. It's not a doddle but it's in and it works. Getting the door fitted isn't easy and I think I has about 1mm each side so it was a real struggle.

To answer the question.

Its due to parking charges and out of town retail centres where you park free.

Yup our local council made about 200k in car park fees a couple of years ago and subbed the local theatre to the tune ok 200k. The market place which was the central hub of mansfield is dead due to overpricing of stalls and other issues. On the other hand, 12 miles down the road Chesterfield is thriving market town compared to mansfield with a thriving town centre.

Ours has gone on the blink as well and thinking of buying another Bosch - but what one? The absolute basic Bosch looks good enough for us - Currys do the SMS40T321GB for £239 (reduced from £349)- so why would I buy the Classixx SMS40C02GB for £298. Don't know nothing about dishwashers I don't.
