Ok am on the pop, but.

just reading about a guy who is struggling with the shanks and playing off 8.
Am not struggling with the shanks and playing of 20. So why do I go.
Smashed it for 39 points today and came joint last with a PP who shot the same and another who shot 40 playing off 21. He was having the game of his life, til he blobbed on the last. Oh how we took the Michael. But we did it to each other for 18 holes. The weather for Feb was glorious, the woodpeckers were knocking seven bells outta the trees. buzzards being chased by the crows. Bloody foreign immigrants have turned up and are crapping everywhere ( Canada geese).
it was a glorious glorious day, yup helped by decent scores, but three lads went home grinning from ear to ear, so much so three ladies in north Notts will get a special valentines treat tonight. Because of the feel good factor of golf.
But am I doin it wrong, is it about the competition with yourself, the infatuation of constantly getting better, only for Father Time to tell you that door is closed. About getting fitter, about meeting folk, and travelling miles to meet them. Am sure I could go on. But.

Why do you play golf?

Similar to you Tashy. I like the challenge, against myself, the chat, the fun, the mickey taking, the walk, the fresh air. If I didn't play golf I'd take up another sport, gentle on the knees though.

Every time I am on the golf course, I feel like I am on holiday. Okay, it might be a very frustrating holiday sometimes, and I might get annoyed at myself when I play badly, but it completely takes me away from my job or any other troubles in my normal life. And no matter how badly I play, as soon as I hit one good shot, all is forgotten. I just don't think of anything but golf as long as I am out there.

I started playing two years ago, when I was already over forty, and I am not much of an athlete, never have been. I am playing off 33 now and chances that I ever get any lower than 20-ish are very slim. But that does not matter. What matters is that I enjoy every round I play.

Because the next round is the one where it clicks and I shoot a PB.

To be honest I just go out and enjoy the surroundings and company. I want to play my best every time I play and always try 100% to do so. If it's not my day I'll still try my best but a drink with good company after and it's forgotten. I am still trying to get to single figures (and will) but that and having to play great every time aren't why I love the game so much. It's runs far deeper

It's fun. It's hard and you stand out there on that green, green grass, and it's just you and the ball and there ain't nobody to beat up on but yourself. It's the only game I know that you can call a penalty on yourself, if you're honest, which most people are. There just ain't no other game like it

Most of the time i don't care what i score, and to be fair, neither does anyone else. I would like to be in the game enough to not feel i am letting anyone down, and would like to hit enough good shots to think i can play a bit. Most of the time i don't take a score card out.

Other than that, its meant to be fun. Its about playing with the right group of guys, talking rubbish. Thats golf to me.
