I treated myself to the current TP's because the price was so low it was a giveaway and they were the supposed incentive to get me down to single figures. Not their fault I've played like a muppet for large chunks of the year.
I've had these a while and to be honest it would have to be something pretty special and a set I know I'll feel comfy using to make me change again. I was pretty close to buying either the I15 or the JPX 800 Pro's but really couldn't see what they'd offer me that the TP's weren't.
I was using callaway big bertha irons and the ball flight was way too high for me. The shafts were also too soft for me. A forum member was selling ping i15's and offered me a deal I couldn't refuse. I'm hitting the pings very well and they are helping my game a lot. I've beat my personal best twice in the short time I've had them. That's my story why I changed my irons
I like new shiney things. That is the general reason for any change in my bag though the most recent driver change has resulted in considerable improvement.
I always promised myself a change when my handicap hit 18 or at least a try of a few irons that were not out and out GI irons but that will probably wait until the January sales or my birthday.
I was using a seven year old set of hippo oversize irons as a beginner set, but the cavities on those compared to today's improvement sticks made them look more like blades, and I promised myself a new up to date set to last me atleast another decade
well ive set myself a target of 18, but spending on how long it takes to get there and how im playing at the time, this may be modified, maybe 16ish.
Liking and hearing really good things about the missy JPX800 Pro!! I do like the look of the Titleist ones too though!
I got mine for my thirtieth as there was nothing else I wanted and to replace my set of out the packet howsons that were the wrong length shafts for me being 6'2" tall. That was 5 years ago and I'm only just starting to hit them well!!
was using cobra iron that were fitted for my bro. he is over 6ft im 5'10". decided to get fitted myself and as it worked out im standard length and lie and reg shaft. good news for me in future
i had a mizuno mx100s, hit them nice but upon having them checked, they were 2degree flat. then with that in the back of my mind and with the pro shop having a set of mx200s sitting reduced i decided that an upgrade was a good idea.
I'll have a look at the new i20's when they eventually hit the shops. If they are a similar price to the i15's I may well change. Flog mine for £250.00 and it's not going to cost me much to upgrade in the overall scheme of things.
They won't make me play better. I know that. But I like new things.
And somebody else will get a bargain set of i15's....(enter sales talk mode)
Playing less, practising less, getting older, slower swing speed, illness and desire to make use of modern technology resulted in switch from semi/cavity blade TP21s with Rifle 5.5s (which I'd had for a dozen years) to MX25's with light weight regular shafts.
I don't change mine very often. I had a set of X12s for years before swapping to my S59s. The reasons were that I wanted an upgrade and also I wanted something that was so fat and ugly. I would have loved to go with a true blade for the way they look but I didn't think it would be good for my game so the S59 seemed like a good compromise. I've had them 6 years and don't antipate changing any time soon.
Got back into the game 7 years ago (after a 10yr break - Uni, travelling, girls, drink....choose your reason)
Bought a cheap set of Petrons for AG, and realised I could still hit a ball.
Online Golf were giving away Nike Slingshots a few years back (£199 !!) so Santa treated me.
Love them and have a target to get to single figures for start of 2013 season...then I may look to change up...
