Why do Americans love squares so much?

Americans use blocks, its a far better idea that what we have here in the uk, but then everything here is much closer knit as we have less disposable space which has also developed over decades (and longer). The americans have vast amounts of space and a lot of the areas are relatively new and urban planning is easier in blocks as you can use a basic blueprint and apply it practically anywhere.
 
As a relatively "New" country, all the pioneers had an opportunity to "Stake Their Claim" This was done by hammering four wooden stakes into the ground thus forming a square or rectangle. Because of this most Amirican boundaries are straight.
Also, as the use of lines of latitude and longitude were in use in navigation by this time, national/state boundaries became based on these and run North/South and East/West as in the border between the USA and Canada. This is also evident in other modern countries such as Australia.
