I played in a Stableford qualifier on Sunday where I got off to a reasonable start and had 30 points after 16 holes in rather difficult conditions. Then managed to blob the last two holes with a double bogey (no shot) and a triple bogey. 2 more points would have got me into the buffer zone and 5 more points into the prizes. Today in a friendly game I parred the last two holes to score 5 points! Why couldn't I do that on Sunday?

Because you are a HC Amatuer golfer player of 12

If you could do it every game you wouldn't be

I am generally a steady player, although not a long hitter, and very rarely score a blob. I was a bit unlucky at the 17th hole (where I don't get a shot). I hit a good drive and a pretty nice 2nd second shot onto the green, but it took a horrible bounce and ran into a deep green-side bunker. My recovery shot was a tad thin and ran to the back of the green, from where I three-putted. My first putt almost went in, but ran about 3 feet past, and the return putt horseshoed out. Grrr! I didn't play the 18th very well at all and probably deserved to blob that! :(

Couple of years ago I held the annual forum day at Cooden.
Shot 41 points in the morning, followed this up with another 41 pointer in the afternoon.
I was on cloud 9.
3 days later I played in an Open at Hankley Common.
Stood on the 1st tee, feeling uber confident. I'd cracked this game at long last.
9 points on the front 9 brought me back down to earth with a bump.
I think I just managed to get over 20 points in total.
It wasn't pretty.

If you ever believe you have cracked the secret of golf, it is guaranteed to bite you on the backside next time you play! I suppose that is one of the fascinations of the game!

Sunday wasn't all bad news, because I won a decent share of the two ball sweep for a birdie on the 4th hole, where I knocked my tee shot to within a foot of the hole. I can cope with putts of that length! :)

I did once- everything fell into place- it was so clear how to hit the ball consistently everytime- 2 weeks in a row of having the ball on a string- I was shooting under par everytime I played, "this game is a piece of p1sh" I heard myself say everyday.............

roll on 3 days later, I shanked/thinned and fatted my way round the course, I literally couldnt hit one decent shot no matter what I did- nearly gave up this stupid game there and then. Now I just expect it as soon as you get cocky again.
