For the last 2 years i have used my 3 wood off the tee.
Most of the people i have played with have commented that i dont
require a driver as i hit the 3 wood so well.
However i cant understand why i cant hit a driver at all consistently.
When i have practiced with my driver[a TM Burner tour]stiff shaft]i can honestly
say i dont know what shot is going to pop up.
The reason now i feel that i need to start hitting a driver,is because i believe
i should be getting another 20 to 30 yards distance over the 3 wood, which of
course would mean a shorter iron into the green.
I wont go into all my distances, but if i hit an 8 iron 145 and my 3 wood 239 carry ,is my optimum.
Surely i could carry a driver 250+and with roll even more.
I would just add that with roll my 3 wood does go 270+
My question would be to anyone who hits their 3 wood the same distances as me,does there
driver go a lot further,thankyou.:)

You need a specialist fitting, try over 50 different drivers and 100+ shafts. Eventually you will find one that "fixes" your problem.

I'd probably say I hit my clubs a fraction further than you 8 iron usually 150 but maybe a 9 from 145 if I'm having a good ball striking day. I can carry a 3 wood 240 but its 13 degree loft. If you hit a 3 wood that distance they are right you probably don't need a driver, but for your reference I carry a driver 265 but its 7.75 loft as I hit it high. The further you hit it the more trouble you will get in if its offline and if I'm being honest I'm offline a lot at the moment.

I'm around your yardages pj, I hit 3 wood around my gaff more for course management reasons, prob hit my driver 8 times per round on average.
I drive pretty well most of the time, but I do hit a few bad ones and sometimes even good strikes are not rewarded because they can go through the fairways.
When I hit driver I don't fluff about, pick my line, line up on a spot a few inches in front and swing after one practice swing. If I hit a bad one I just move on and try to recover. I try my upmost to take the pressure off the driver and find I get better results.
If u get a chance on the range, try to eliminate one side, ie try to hit fade or draw. Not both. When u can rule out one side it helps, same swing as 3 wood don't kill it. Think it might a little upstairs matey :)

If you are hitting the 3 wood consistently I would suggest there is either something going on with the driver, such as trying to hit it too hard etc or the shaft (stiff) is wrong. Have you had a driving lesson and is it the same shaft as the 3 wood?
