Why are masonry nails made from plasticine?

You would think they would be made from a material that you could hammer into masonry. But no, I have never found this to be the case. They are made out of rubbish. I'd happily pay a pound each for one that actually did as it was supposed to. But no, they just buckle and bend, and are flipping useless.
 
Ask a stupid question Murph' but what are you knocking them into?

Company I work for supplies Wickes, Travis Perkins and Jewsons as well as a few others so may be able to help.

It depends on what you are doing but no more nails can save you a lot of grief, especially on skirting boards, architrave, etc.

There's no S on the end of Jewson. They get quite tetchy about that at head office.
 
Just trying to nail up some cable to the outside of my house. Even going into the mortar, it's a no go. It should be simple, but it's not!
