My Missus bought two new pairs of glasses about a month ago at our local "Spectacle Hut" store in their buy one get the second pair free offer.
Got the £25.00 eye test charge waived because she spent over £100.00.
So 2 pairs of glasses (single vision) for £117.00 all in.

I go down yesterday and order two new pairs of varifocals under the same offer.
My bill comes to £347.00!!
Second pair was free, but I have to pay for the lenses.
Three times the bloody price!!

Tell me about it! Just spent £420 on one pair of specs and that is after a 25% discount. I do have a high prescription so need super thin lenses and also varifocals for the first time.
On the positive side, they are very nice and the lenses are of very good quality.

Going for a retest tomorrow
£8 for the test and last glasses were £60 (get the test money refunded if you buy specs from them) but might go for varifocals this time round, not looking forward to hearing a price after reading the above though

Bought a pair of varifocals a 6 months back, and after being advised that as I do a lot of computer work I'd need varifocal or bi-focal. One focal length for the comp screen and another focal length for reading paperwork that is closer. £260 for one pair! After trying to get used to them for months they now reside in a drawer in the dining room. I was like one of those nodding dogs you used to see on the back parcel shelf of a car... nodding up and down and shaking from left to right... flippin' whiplash by the end of a good book!!

I get contacts from Specsavers and they are good. Only once had glasses from them about 10 years ago and they put the wrong lens in one eye!

I go to Tesco do free eye test/contact check and then order disposable contacts online.

Not liking the price of bifocals as the optician told me that at some point I will most likely need those.

So are they not too easy to get used to?

I've never tried them but doesn't sound like they're a fix for everyone. At the moment its reading glasses off/on etc, is that what you're back to?

"Why are glassses so bloody expensive???"

Because we need them. Demand usually comes with a hefty price tag. Several other things cost a fortune because we simply can't live without them. Bog roll being one of them.

The guy who did mine was the one that most of the other providers sent their really difficult cases to, especially the ones they botched up. Mine were quite straightforward but I know he used to do some really tricky prescriptions but I do also know that not everyone is suitable
