Why are ESR cuts so contentious on here?

Soon as any one mentions they have qualified for an ESR cut, there are certain forum members who start accusing them of all kinds of cheating... Yet we all comment on bandit behaviour and these seem to be mild compared to the accusations laid at those that are ESR'd.

Seriously why can't people except that this is a system introduced to reduce bandit behaviour and people playing off falsely high handicaps. Surely the biggest loser is the person who has been ESR'd because they have to then play to that lower handicap?

To actually qualify for an ESR you have to have played extraordinarily better than your present handicap and you have to have done it within a fixed period of time, there is no flash in the pan improvement here, the system wont allow it.

There I have thrown my forum grenade in ... now who will present a credible counter argument for the certain forum members poor behaviour?

Yup ... I am so proud of it and taking the manure for it :thup: I just wanted someone to justify their opinion on it, instead of just accusing those of us that have achieved it of some form of ungentlemanly conduct.
 
I have ne problem at all with ESRs I have had 3 in the last 2 seasons, they just show that you are improving and that a low score is not a flash in the pan.
 
Not sure why anyone would be upset by someone getting a handicap cut no matter how they come about. If you can play to your new handicap then it's justified, if you can't, you'll go back up. I actually think the lower handicap has made me a better player
 
I expect the answer is ignorance through lack of understanding what and how an ESR is. I expect if you described it as a general play cut on top of my comp cuts most who are critical would agree it was needed lol
 
No idea why anyone be angry about someone getting them. I've had 2 this year. Pretty sure people would be more upset if the ESR didn't exsist and my handicap had reduced at a slower rate.
 
Low handicap snobbery ? Forumers being judged by their handicap ? No real idea really but seems like a good idea to me. Would rather play someone whose handicap is too low than one that is too high.
 
I wish I'd had one, 6 cuts, 4 x .1's and 1 buffer for me this year. I've just not had that big under par round that i keep thinking is just round the corner.

My qualifiers have gone :-
10.7 > 10.3 > 9.9 > 9.5 > 9.5 >9.6 > 9.2 > 9.3 > 9.1 > 9.2 > 9.3 > 8.5
 
If I was playing well enough to be ESR'd then I'd be happy to take the hit. Playing off a seriously reduced mark would be a source of inspiration to keep working on what I was doing and strive to go even lower. Sadly such a cut seems a long way off but never stop believing
 
Where have people had a go about them? I havent seen any of these posts...

From what I read on here people seem to accept them as part of the handicap system, which it is.
 
Nothing wrong with an ESR and can't recall too many complaints about them on here
 
I've no problem with ESRs. In fact, I think their application is entirely appropriate - and they greatly assist consistency imo.

Maybe any 'contentious' stuff is because the SGU didn't sign up to them.
 
I find them odd. I've not had one, but a friend of mine got hit with one. He won a pairs comp, followed by an individual board comp, and got cut from 8 to 5 in two weeks. Now his golf has not improved in this period, he's just had a purple patch. It could take years of non competitive golf to get back to 8.

Not sure how anyone who played in a pairs comp was ESR'd. It should have been of 3/4 and a none qualy so it would not have been done by any computerised hc system.
