Had an email today saying tickets dispatched... going for the saturday and sunday again, staying over night at the de vere sunningdale.

Anyone else going?

I am taking my 8 year old son on the Sunday. Ticket came today. First time for either of us at a live golf event. Any advice on how to get the best out of the day?

Worked at the event last year, good tournament that and normally one of the strongest fields as well. Had a great time last year mind you it was baking hot, well into the 90's last year. Not going this year but you will enjoy it.

Fragger, CVG and my good self are planning to go on Pro-Am day, especially if we can persuade Fragger's FIL to drive us there in his Beemer!!

Sunday was mad busy last year, if it were me avoid the leaders as it was that busy you will struggle to see much play. Get there early and walk the course with some of the early tee off times and then pick a hole towards the end say hole 17 or 18 and get a seat and stay in it

I've been the last 2 years on a Sunday and going again this year with the old man.

If you can get there nice and early for the first few groups as you can see a lot of golf as it's pretty quiet, you may not see the big names early but you can get really close.

Also the range is good if it's quiet as you are only about 15ft from when the players are.

Take a cool box with some sarnies, sit back and enjoy. I went Saturday and Sunday last year, we took a cool box with some lunch and chilled out around one of the fairways and watched some approach shots, dropped it back at the car then had a wander around. You can either stay in one place and watch multiple groups or you can follow a group. We did a bit of both. Sunday last year I spent an hour or so watching the final groups warm up on the range and green which was an eye opener. Then followed Poults around for a few holes, had to leave early as I had a long drive back and was flying out on holiday early doors.

Just go there and have a look around, there is no one way to enjoy it, its all a great day out.

Ian, make sure the FiL does take you, if not, borrow his car. It is the only way you will get to park onsite unless you are one of the ones who has booked parking in advance.
Due to the total mess on the A30 that tailed back to the M25 last year, the police have insisted that there are park and rides for almost all parking this year (this includes parking for the volunteers).

Cheers
Anthony - I think Fragger has this info and is one reason he's badgering FIL to come along!

Hope to see you there.

May go on the Sunday.
Take a little radio with earphones so you can keep up with what's going on on the tournament is my advice. Made a massive difference at the Open when I went to Royal St George's

Do you know how far the park and ride is from the course?

It says 10 mins on the website but they can sometimes be a little optimistic!

The last 2 years we had parking at Wentworth so didn't have to worry about it.

This year is the first year they are doing the park and ride. The buses that run round the course will still be running as in previous years.

For the park and ride, there will be 2 different places to park. According to the ET officials, one is approx 10 mins the other approx 15 mins. They said there will be buses every 3-5 mins. The buses from the P&R will drop you at a new welcome gate area on the 18th hole of the East course, from there you will be enter via the tented village.

Agree with philly169, there's no set way to enjoy it. The beauty of it is that you can more or less go where you want to and get close to the action.

I like to buy a programme which lists all the players tee times, then choose who to watch tee off the first. When following a popular player I find it better to let the herd go and stand back a bit and watch their 2nd shots to the green. Most rush up to the green to get a good position, but even then can usually get a good sight as you move up.

Agree with philly about carrying food and drink but prefer to carry a back pack with other bits that might be needed during the day.
Although expensive the food outlets are of good quality, usually stop at one during the day and it's a long day, so need to sit down and eat!

Last couple of years we walked along the 18th fairway - left side - to watch 2nd shots or lay up to the green. Last year was really close to Monty and was good to hear him chatting to his caddy.

All in all a fantastic day to see it all live

I'll certainly be there on Wednesday for the Pro-Am.

Likely to be there other days as well, though not sure which.

Lots of ways to enjoy it. It's a big place so can be a bit of a slog if you just keep walking around. Mixing it up is best I found. Follow a match for a few holes, then have a break and park myself by a green. It's great seeing groups come through and playing different shots around the green. Then pick up with another group and follow them for a bit. On Thurs and Fri you can get a good seat in the grandstand at 18 late afternoon as many people drift off but there's still plenty of golfers on the course. Nice way to end the day.

Going on the Friday. There's 8 of us and we've managed to sort out 2 BMW's so we can get on site parking.

I've been told (though unconfirmed) that if you have a BMW key you can get access to a special BMW owners area for food/drink. I'm going to borrow a friend's spare key for the day just in case.

Looking forward to it as it's my first event.

There is a big bmw owners lounge in the tented village that you can access by showing your BMW key and at least one viewing gallery out on the course that is the same, free soft drinks while your in there.

How many will they let in per key? Five of us are going down on the Sunday.

Going Friday with Sundance in his old man's BMW. I've never been before even though it's only about 2 miles from me so looking forward to it.
