If you are looking for a reasonably good ball that is quite cheap then you can buy Strata balls for £9.99 a dozen in Tesco but since you are just starting you would get away with Top Flite.

Use anything till you get a consistent ball flight. Spend a day in the ruff at your local pay and play and see what you can find! When your good use titleist!!!

Lake balls are your friend tim, as long as its round and white you wont go too wrong, as you start to improve, begin using the softer balls, again you can still get lake balls by the dozen so you arnt paying full price for better quality balls.

Haha no, it meas they are all either finders or logo'd balls, nothing wrong with them.
Dring the winter I buy a dozen titleist pro v1 lake balls for 17.99 (normally £30+ for new ones) they work great for me.

Check out Direct Golf, they sell boxes of lake balls extremely cheaply.
As a eginner myself I find there is a hell of a lot of snobbery when it comes to golf balls. Low handicappers generally swear by Titleist, fair enough.
As far as my game's concerned, as long as it's round nd white like Brendy says.
Pay through the nose for expensive bals then cry like a baby when you lose the full sleeve during a round!!!

Srixon green boxed balls from Direct Golf at #13 a doxen - good feel, distance and value for money; in the summer I use Titleist proV1's - a great ball

Whilst I agree a performance ball wont do much for your long game as a beginner, there is some merit in using a better ball around and on the greens, even with inconsistent strikes you will impart more spin on a decent ball than a hard cheapo ball which may just keep you on the putting surface rather than over the back.

American Golf - 50 lake balls for £10, then anything you find that has a recognisable name (except Donnay).
Once you start to lose fewer change to a reasonably priced ball for the consistency.

by the way, I guarantee you'll always find Titleist Pro V's around any course. They're really for the better golfer (they give more control but also demand it) but common sense frequently takes a (very expensive) back seat.
