Funny you should mention this I have had the phone calls and text messages aswell. Is there anyone he has not told ?????

All the Best Crawford and mind and get some photo's.

Well I may have mentioned it to one or two people!

I'd love to stay up and discuss it with you guys however I have a 0445 alarm to get up for. I hope Ivor Robson is there to announce me onto the first tee!

I owe it all to a certain gentleman on this forum whom I am eternally indebted too for pulling this off. All I did was locate him a cheap 2nd hand driver as well!!!

Once I get off of cloud nine I may post a little review. I have packed one of the kids pampers for my first tee nerves!

Alarm went off at 0430 and I thought what the #### am I doing getting up at this time for!! Its only a game of golf! Then I remembered it wasn't just any game of golf, nor was it just any golf course! This was probably the most famous golf course in the world. It was St Andrews, the Holly Grail!

Anyway, I quickly showered and dressed and grabbed half a cuppa and out the door to be met by the first frost of the year but it was at least a cold but clear day. The clubs and holdall were deposited in the boot. And off I went!

Drove to Hamilton Services and meet up with Johnny (JJF69) who volunteered to drive the rest of the way in his new BMW. He obviously didn't fancy being seen in my Skoda Fabia!

A quick roll at golfcitydwellers (Euan) recommended cafe hit the spot and then off to the first tee. Obligatory first tee photos weer taken and we were off. The whites no less, thanks Euan!

A good solid opening drive coupled with a crisply struck seven iron into a stiff breeze to 20 feet followed by a drained putt and I was off to a dream start, thecraw -1 through one!!!!

The Old Lady bit back quickly and a treble followed by a double on 3 and 4 brought me crashing back down to earth. To be honest I struggled for the rest of the front nine which was playing really tough into a bitterly cold wind. Although both Jon and Euan played some really great golf.

I played better on the back nine finishing with 4 straight pars. Overall I finished on +9 which included the treble and double plus 3, 3 putts.

Johnny who plays off one was going great guns at +1 until a couple of bad bounces put paid to his score where he finished at +6 however his game deserved better, probably a lot better.

Euan played some super steady eddie golf and at 3 over in that wind was simply superb scoring. A double bogie on 16 didn't deter him and how his birdie putt on 17 didn't drop is a mystery.

Euan, a huge big thank you for the wonderful day, the course was magnificent. The clubhouse just oozes history and the pint was first class. Add in the rather large boobs serving behind the bar and it was awesome!!!

Wonderful stuff Craw......I was thinking as we played the 6th at Goswick this morning that you would have a tough front nine into that wind!

I was supposed to be playing it next week but sadly an injury to my Pa who's bust a rib has knocked that on the heid but we have been promised a re schedule for May time next year and I canny wait to sample the charms of the Old Lady again.

I struggled today Fabian, I hit it much better last week at Gourock, especially off the tee.

I had three. 3 putts however for me a long putt at my course is 30-40 feet very very max. I had a putt of about 100 feet today and Jon had one from about 120 feet. Its a different ball game. I also nailed a drive up the last into the Valley of Sin, I three putted from the valley for a par. Its an area of my game which I'm not used too using is long putts and I mean proper long putts!

I think the putting is always the hardest thing to judge on a course you dont play often/ever before. I can only imagine how tough the greens are there and 3 putts are better than the 4 and 5 putts which Im sure I could manage to rack up.

Still good shooting mate as it was cold and windy up here today. 3 putts are always going to happen on greens that big .A cracking drive up the last tho and a birdie start so not to shabby. A special place it is have walked it hundreds of times and stood on the bridge and looked up in the town ,ah well maybe one day.
