Now some of you are going to guess where this is heading by the title. For the uninitiated, I recently had a few top three finishes which should have been wins but for weak finishes and last hole disasters.

I entered the midweek medal this afternoon in glorious conditions. Hit a huge hook at the 1st and was lucky to find it and made 5 (double). Hacked down the 2nd and single putted for a par 5 and one putted the next. I wasn't hitting it great at all but scoring great. Managed to get out in 39 (+4) mising every fairway and only hitting 3 GIR

Started back with 3 straight pars and then chucked another double in on 13 (3 putted too). Stood on 16 +7 gross and in with a great chance of a big handicap cut. Walked of with a double (another 3 putt) and then hit a ball OB on 17 for a triple bogey 6. Playing 18 I needed a par for a net 69 (-1) and 82 yards away in 2. Cue 52 degree wedge over the back and a chip an 2 putt for a 6 and a level par (net) round. 6, 6, 6 finish and another competition goes begging. :(

Take the positives. You may not have played well but you scored well.
You know you can do it - it'll come.
Just think beack a few months when you were playing so badly - the game is there, lurking. You'll find it!

Well there you go. You've played to your handicap so no change and you stay at 13.5. You played well on the type of strokes that are usually a problem and you haven't played to your normal standard elsewhere.
I can only see you coming down, and very soon if the weather holds for the next few weeks.

Good job you keep messing up those last holes.. you'd be a right bandit otherwise :)

Sounds like you're dead close to putting a really good round together. Purely out of interest, what's your best gross score round that track Homer?

Regards....

I did a homer today too then!
I played the forst four fine, level par, then had 6 bogeys (inc a double) in a row then calmed things down with a few pars and birdies, got to the 17th having just birdied the 16th par 5 and bogeyed the par 3, managed a par at the last but left feeling disappointed as it could have easily been 4 shots better had the putter been a little hotter. 79 gross (net 70 -1) and disappointed? normally not but today..GRRR. The 17th always catches me out.

Maybe not Homer, turned out I came third and won a few quid, funnily enough I beat at least one other on the better back 6 holes. I dont feel so bad now that others found it tough too, except the winer who had 43 points!
