As the title says who should Hodgson be picking at right back?

It is clear that there are options from the aspect of attacking but recent performances appear to confirm that defensively we have real problems in this position.

In the World Cup our right back is likely to have to defend and I am sorry but IMO neither Johnson or Walker have ever been international standard as defenders.

So anyone got any suggestions to help out the England manager.

On tonights performance, I'd rather have Samuel Johnson.

I am 56 now but think I am still a better defender than Johnston.

Nigel Farage.

He favours the right, defends impossible positions to the best of his ability, and would hate losing to anyone foreign !!

Played in conjunction with John Terry at centre back, they would show those foreign types we mean business

Past Johnson and Walker who else is there ?

Woy has already said that he has he squad sorted so I expect those two to go

Hodgson has said he has his squad sorted. Not sure how he can when the season hasn't even finished yet. He'll probably pick on reputation and what club the player plays for rather than current form.

Because he won't pick anyone who shows form late in the season

I expect he had his squad sorted 12 months ago

Well that would rule out Raheem Stirling and I don't think that is (or should) happen.

It just goes to highlight the weaknesses we have particularly in defence if the choice at right back is between Johnson and Walker. Same can be said for centre-back, Jagielka and Cahill don't look too bad but who covers them.
Surely not Smalling and Jones.

Only one true class keeper as well.

All this and still some expect England to do well!!

So no Barkley, Henderson, lalana etc?

This is Woy we are talking about here

In November he stated that no one would be able to force their way in now

It would not surprise me one bit to see Barkley stay at home

Roygave like 3 inteviews in the one day and different papers used different quotes. I think the main point was that one good month (Wickham) wouldn't matter. He was looking at the last two seasons. Think he was covering himself on certain aspects such as Cole, good last year and shaw this year so he could pick either. Re RB, i'd rather take Clybe, chambers or Flanagan than the more likely ptions of Walker, Smalling/Jones or Johnson.

I find it strange.

I was at Mondays match and watched Johnson up against Bolasie and I thought Johnson did better than almost every full back I've seen this season against him. He also looked good going forward and is quick and gets stuck in, to be fair I would think he's a nailed on for the Brazil trip.

It's not going to happen, but, our own Joel Ward has had a tremendous season, is strong and quick and whilst he's been playing left back most of the season, is actually a right back and certainly a large part of Palaces success this season - woy could do worse than give him a try!

by far Englands weakest position. Both Johnson & Walker are terrible footballers.

Walker gets by as he is so quick as did Johnson but he has lost pace and is now getting found out big time.

I am not English and I don't follow youth football that much so is there anyone up and coming at RB for England? pretty much set in most other positions apart from here.

I can see the majority of teams England play at the WC hammering that right hand side and it causing England real bother.

It seems to be that managers are happy to play two right footers at RB and LB, cant remember a manager playing two left footers at LB and RB though. What's wrong with Baines/Cole/Shaw at both RB and LB?

Good call.

From what I have seen of Baines and Shaw I reckon either of them could do a decent job, including defensively, on their "wrong" side. Not so certain of Cole's ability to adapt at this stage of his career.

Ive seen cole play at rb a few times and he's done well. I think the reason we don't see it so often us that generally left side players are harder to come by. Just look at some of the players to have played on England's left in the past. I can't see Roy not picking a rb at rb now though as hasn't tried it yet.
