Got to love summer golf. Absolutely nailed my 3w yesterday, bit of a tail wind, baked dry fairway. Measured the shot with my gps as I knew it was decent. 305yds! Probably rolled the last 100 of them. I won't say what happened next as there was a fair bit of swearing involved...

Me. On the fringe of our 500yd par 5 in two, with two wollops from the 5W. Down wind, hard fairway. Against the wins though? Forget it. I need a driver!

I have smashed a couple of 380/90s this year on our 13th... get over the top of the hill and it rolls all the way down to the brook at the front of the green. Only other conditions you can do it in are solid ice!

ah yes, summer. When the forum averages go for over 300yds with a driver to over 300yds with a 3w. It will be hybrids next summmer:whistle:

p.s anyone who knows Fereneze golf course 18th has probably witnessed 320yd 3 irons;)

Next summer? I am hitting my 6 iron 300 yards this summer!

Ok, its shanking right, hitting the road that runs parallel and then down the hill, but i measured it with GPS! So thats my new average.

our course this year has not got close to as firm as it was last summer. Some of the distances I was hitting it last year were borderline embarrassing. I was playing a club matchplay as a 12 handicapper and played a 470 par 5 with a 3 hybrid and a pitching wedge. I had 138 to the flag after my tee shot. It was down wind, a bit down hill and the fairway was so hard it was unreal. A week earlier i'd hit a 4 iron pin high from 250 yards on the same hole. The driver didn't leave the bag for most of the summer.

@4golfonline: Oosthuizen wins the long driver comp at the PGA practice round hitting it 340 yards. Nicklaus won it in 1963 hitting it 341 yards #shaftflex
Interesting .

pha... playing on Sunday on our 9th hole I usually lay up with either a 4 iron or into the wind my 18 deg hybrid. Got down to the usual landing area. No sign of the ball anywhere. walked up to the green to tend the flag for my two PP. one of them says, is that your ball over the back there?

it was 330 yards with a 4 iron, either a firm bounce or ball picked up by bird and dropped over the back;)

yep - those smooth swinging straight hitting seniors are having their annual clean up on any course that doesn't have long carry tee shots and only protects the greens to the sides (and there are a lot more courses like that then many might think!)
