In the quest for trying to strike my irons better I have come across a few articles about hovering all your clubs at address. Anyone ever put this in to practice?

I did it for a while with my driver to great effect.

I think you get more control with the clubhead by hovering rather than almost lifting or sweeping away the driver when placed on the ground. The takeaway I believe will be more consistent when hovering.

FairwayDodger hovers...

Never tried it with irons.

Can link one of said articles? I'm not sure what the benefit would be of hovering your irons at address. Sounds like a recipe for topping the ball to me. :D

Apparently you are more likely to stay down on the ball thinking you are going to top it...the mysteries of the mind and all that

Hovering was/is absolutely natural for me!

Though I MAY ground wedges, especially for bare lies!

Putter hovers ever so slightly too!

Possibly. But, for me, it's more about eliminating any superfluous (prevention of) movement during the backswing!

I hover driver and putter. Not conscious thought. Just seems right.

I clearly don't do irons as they can sometimes catch in the grass as I go back and I have to try and hit the abort button on the swing.

I hover the driver and the putter. It seems logical to me, since I don't want to come into contact with the grounds with those clubs during the swing either. I do ground irons and wedges, though (same reasoning, here I do want to hit the ground, so it seems logical to start the club on that height). The only exception (apart from hazards, of course) is that I do hover my irons in the rough most of the time, because I am afraid grounding it directly behind the ball will cause the ball to move on longer grass.

Have tried 'hovering' in the past with mixed results but to be honest I think I was suffering more of a swing issue at the time that and just too much going on all at once for a novice...

To be honest I'd forgotten all about it but now you've mentioned it I may give it another go as it certainly worked when I got it right...

One of my best iron shots of the weekend was from a fairway bunker where I had to hover....

Might need to consider hovering irons.

Any shot that leads to a par on the SI 1...
(Ignore the thinned hybrid into the bunker though...)

Did you hover the hybrid ?
