There must be loads of us who, when we finally put a face to a name, play a few holes together, who turn out to be completely different to what we expected e.g. physical appearance, accent, dress sense/code, behaviour etc.

For example, BlueWolf and me (apparently - i had completely forgotten) had a spat on here a few months ago - i can't even remember what it was about, although i do know i had to send him a PM to apologise, although it must have been something to really p**s me off, and hence my pre-conceptions were a little bit biased. turned out he was quite normal and very pleasant.

Alternatively, who when you met them, were EXACTLY the same as their forum persona

He he he - lights touch paper and retreats :)

I think you'll find that irrespective of what goes on hee, once you get to a meet most people are pretty decent chaps and its all about the day, the company and the laugh. I've never been to a meet yet I've not enjoyed and its always good to meet new faces and catch up with old friends. If you've never been on one, then get your name done. Exceptional value for money usually and a great time to be had

First Forum event I attended was way back in Feb2008. Organised by Toad at Rosemount, Blairgowrie. Turned up at the sign in desk with John_Findlay and didn't have a clue who we were looking for. I mean who turns up and asks for someone called Toad ! A lot of golf has been played since then and some good friendships made in the intervening years. You can still see details of that day here.

That's where I met PsycoJoe and Madandra, Birdieman, Boabski, StuartD and several others. Must say, PsycoJoe wasn't a psyco and madandra is an awfully nice chap as well. Add in the various combatants at Goswick over the years and it's a fairly eclectic mix on here. We've probably been lucky up here in that most of the regulars have met on more than one occasion at Forum Meets. Definitely a major plus to this Forum IMO :)

My first outing was with JustOne, AuburnWarrior and Lefty at Chartham Park......it was like playing with Tiger, Rory and Phil

I echo Homers words, ive been on a few forum meets and in my experience
everyone ive met has been great.
When i first met Timgolfy i thought i would be looking for a guy who was loud, with a lot
of bravado.
However he was quiet and quite reserved, and a top bloke.

Never been on a forum meet yet but really looking forward to my first one so I can put names to faces. Fingers crossed it will be at Woodhall if any more places come up. I think you have to go with an open mind about people. Remember on forum sites it is easy to type something that does not really come across how you meant it to. I have had handbags at ten paces a couple of times on here with people, but I would never turn up expecting them to aggressive argumentative people and I hope they do not think the same about me.........:mmm:

I was disappointed that homer wasn't yellow when we met at woburn!

I met a few lads at woburn and everyone I spoke to was sound though I doubt the same could be said about8 me like!

The thing with this forum is that we're all enthusiastic golfers (some a bit ott) so nobody is gonna turn up at a meet and act like a complete knob.

I thought scouser would be a 50 odd year old scouser, with a curly barnet who used to work in butlins in the 70's as a compere, complete with ruffled shirt and dicky bow.

Instead, he was a younger chap with a shaven head, quite well spoken and just a dicky swing.

Cheers Sev, it wasn't really a spat, more a minor disagreement. Great to meet you in person though, and we had a great afternoon. I've got to be honest and say that my experience on previous (diving) forums has taught me to resist the urge to guess what people are like. I enjoyed meeting everybody last week and am looking forward to doing it again soon.
