Who are all these Guests?

Hey all,

At the bottom of the home page of this forum there is a few stars, one of them is how many members and guests are looking at the forum. There is always more guests than members, right now 50ish members and 80ish guests.

It is pretty much always about that ratio and I don't get it, are these people who have asked something of google and found a result that bring them here? Do we have a lot of people who will eventually become members after they have looked around. If that were the case then we would have a far larger influx of new members.


What are all you voyeurs doing out there hu?

They used to known as 'lurkers', people who lurk around the forum reading the content but are not ready to sign up and get involved.

If I view on my Ipad it often hasnt signed me in so I will only sign if If I intend to post something so I would be shown as guest when viewing from Ipad, probably applies to others too

Its government controlled spiders, searching for particular keywords, then logging who says them so that agents can drag you out of bed and "disappear" you.... or possibly not... An interesting experiment is to look at those stats when there is some sort of social unrest, such as last years riots... They do tend to spike....

Replace some with most and this is the right answer. Checking them out a bit does reveal that they are almost all google bots etc.

probably someone like me who views quite a bit but only logs in when its worth saying something rather than having to say something for the sake of it (yes I do use Srixon AD333s but can only say it so many times) or to build up their post numbers.

Must admit I'm on here virtually every day but don't always log in. Part laziness and part the fact that someone has already posted what I would have said anyway.
