Which Wilsons? Di7 vs Ci6

Please forgive me if you have read this post on another website, I'm just trying to get a wide opinion!

As a 20 handicapper (and have been for about 18 mths now) I decided to invest in some new irons. Did a bit of research on the net and some perusing on prices and thought I'd go for either Di7 or Mx19 (well inside my £300 budget, left me £50 for a new putter!).

Off I duly trotted to a local pro to try out the clubs on an indoor simulator, hit both clubs well, but then I had some surprising advice. He said that I hit the MX19 too high, and that Di7 was better suited, but he thought that the wider sole may hinder me if my handicap lowers, especially in the summer. He then suggested Ci6, thinner sole, which he reckoned would have greater longevity for me as I improve. Again, I hit it pretty well, launching a 6 iron about 175 yds (projected in the sim).

So now I'm in a quandery! Ci6 may be better in the long run, but not as forgiving for me now as Di7. I'm also lead to believe that Ci6 is also "old technology", as a colleague was cynical enough to suggest that the Pro had a set of Ci6 that he wanted to get rid of!!

Any suggestions or thoughts, either on the choice I have now, or something else comparable to the Ci6? I'm really keen to make the right choice, as I've not the money to keep changing clubs every year!

The Ci6 is an excellent club but more suited to the mid handicapper, the price you can pick them up for makes them even more tempting! However, they are less advanced than the Di7s.

I am a massive Wilson Staff fan and have a set of Di7s and would defo recommend that you get a set. They will last ages, the Ci6 has been around a while and the style is looking a bit dated in my eyes compared to the lovely shininess of the Di7s.

For about £300 you cant get a better set of irons for a mid to high handicapper!!!

But what about the issue with the sole? Is this of major concern? I have heard about people thinning lots of shots on hard fairways with wide sole game improvement irons?

Is there anything comparable with the Ci6 for around £250?

I am also a Wilson fan. Have you considered Pi5 irons ?
I play off 22, and love these clubs even though they are aimed at better players than me (Padraig used Pi5s to win the Open). Best of all Direct Golf were selling em for 199 quid to make way for the Pi7.

The Pi5 irons should be very hard for a hard handicapper to control, if your hitting the ball so well with them whats letting your game down?

The Pi7s are golfing porn!! they are simply the best looking irons on the market!

How hard can it be to choose a set of irons? Just had a chat with a colleague who reckons I should save a little bit more and give Cobra FP or Callaway X18 a try.

AAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Di7 Di7 Di7 Di7 Di7 Di7 Di7 Di7 Di7 Di7 Di7 Di7!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Forget the rest buy the best!! Di7

I use Cobra FP's I got them fully fitted for £299 5-SW with free GW.

I really cannot see me changing them for a good while as they are perfect for me in my eyes.

Go try the Cobra's you will not regret it I promise!

I have found that a lot of pro's always try to push Wilson, apparently (my guys reckon) they get more mark-up and incentives with Wilson than with any other brand so you may not be getting the most impartial of advice.
