Which Wedge?

The last of my Ping wedges were sold and collected last night so, as per my signature, I have a need for some wedges and possibly looking at a 7w.

My last wedges were a 47/10, 52/10, 56/12 & 60/10.

I was struggling with tight lies so I got a second-hand 56/7 Cleveland 588 wedge and I'm very comfortable with it so the low bounce obviously suits me.

Now, since my change to Mizuno and my MP-52's I decided to lose the rest of the Pings and bought a MP-T4 52/7 and again I'm very comfortable with it.

So, the question is, do I keep the odd Cleveland in the bag which doesn't sit well with my extreme OCD amongst my shiny mizzy's or buy another MT4/s?

The lowest bounce though on the 56 is 10, so, I'm thinking shall I go to a 58/10 so my wedge combination would be

A/ P/W (47), 52/7 & 58/10 or,
B/ P/W (47), 52/7, 56/10 or,
C/ P/W (47), 52/7, 56/13

The above keeps me at 3 wedges from where I used to carry 4  or do I stay similar to before,

D/ P/W (47), 52/7, 56/10, 60/5
E/ P/W (47), 52/7, 56/13, 60/5

As a curve ball, there is also a 54/9 in the range so build that in if you think it has a place but, I think its too close to my 52/7 personally?

Thank you.

I have a 46, 52(7), 58(10) set-up.

Nice 6* gap between clubs gives me consistent distance gaps and, frankly, don't feel I need any more.

I suppose it depends on your course set up and what clubs will give you the best chance at making a score.

If you feel a club at the longer end of the bag will help then you have your answer.

I can't comment on the bounce, but my set up is PW (46 - TaylorMade!), GW (50), SW (56), LW (60).

The GW and SW are Cleveland 588's which are superb. Pretty sure they're offering £25 off a 588 wedge if you trade in - but as you've just sold yours, guessing that's no help! I struggled with Mizzie specialist wedges in the past, so I'd add 588's to the bag!

B or D from your list would suit me, but goodness only knows what suits you! ;)

I carry 2 extra wedges really, I kind of don't need a 56degree sand wedge, which has always been in the bag. The reason being the 60 wedge is low bounce and works better out of bunkers and the 52 is a good 50:50 rolling and pitch but good for 90-100 yard full shots, and 50-60yard half shots. I just don't find anything in between. Plus I just cannot get my head around all these wedges in the bag and when you have so many irons to manufacture pitching shots with. Perhaps less is more. No confusion just decide on the shape the roll and select the club and swing it.

This is far too personal a question to be asking on here, there are so many variables!

1) Are you comfortable hitting full, 3/4 and 1/2 shots with your wedges?
2) Have you taken into account different course conditions ie. hard and soggy fairways?
3) The look and feel of each wedge is very personal
4) Do you mostly play a course with tight or lush lies?

You have to think about all of these things then decide for yourself. I only carry 3 wedges which I think is ample and I've had them custom ground to my own preference. I'd never consider 4 wedges but lots of people prefer that option.

Thanks for the replies, I have gone with D and ordered the 56/10 & 60/5 to go with my P/W (47) & 52/7.

They probably won't be in the bag all of the time dependant on the course and conditions of the day but they'll be available to me as & when I think I'll need them.

You should have gone for A and got a 21 deg hybrid

I can't get on with hybrids Bob for some reason, I've tried loads.

I have a gap that I'm going to fill with a 7w as my 3w is 13* and my 5w is 17* and then I drop to the 4 iron, which I hit well but a 7w will come into play more and give me greater options I think.

Your bag is looking pretty sexy hu!

Glad you got the wedges before I had a chance to read all the posts as I was totally lost by the time I had read them all and did not know what to say.

To come off topic a little as you have made your purchase and I do not intend to talk you into hybrids as you seem happy with your fairways... What is your bad shot with a hybrid? Are you hitting them like a long iron and chunking them or is it a direction thing? Purely for interest.
