Which Wedge to Start?

Hi

I am looking for advice selecting wedges. I'm sorting out my own clubs after using a borrowed stock set for the last few months. My new irons were missing the pw (46 degree) and I have found a similar replacement at 45 degree loft that's on order. I want to get wedges and have been doing a bit of research on setups but I'm reluctant to order 2 or 3 wedges without getting distances dialed in with one wedge first. I'm thinking of going for a 56/10 to start an then maybe add a gap and a loft.
Anybody got any advice if that sounds like a decent starting point or should I just go for a set of wedges or a different loftedw edge to start?
Any help appreciated!

That's where I'd recommend you start.

That will be your Sand Wedge and may work well elsewhere.

Lob wedge can be useful, but you may (hopefully) go several rounds without having the circumstances where it's the best choice. Either that or it could become the most used wedge in your bag!

You can use the PW for chips near the green, though SW might be handy if the bounce works for you (it doesn't for me). A Gap wedge of around 50* might give you more options but is not essential immediately imo.

Cheers for the reply that sounds like some solid advice! Hah well there alway seems to be something between me and the hole but mostly just 3 putts but I'll keep the lob wedge in mind. Not over complicating things with too many options to begin with seems like a good plan. It's good to ask for advice before shelling out the clams ;)

Personally I would have got a 47 instead of 45 as you may find you won't have a proper gap in between your 9 and 45. Then i would have added a 52 and 56.

as you have gone for a 45 pw, I would personally go 50 and 56.
other factors will be the standard of your game and if a relative newcomer or higher handicap, a lob wedge may cause you more problems, unless you are disciplined with it and don't try and use it for every shot inside 100 yards.

Best thing about having a 60 is that the loft angle is very useful for retrieving balls from the water hazard!

Thanks, I had real problems finding a wedge that matched the irons as they are old. If I end up hitting a lot of full shots with the PW then I wanted it to have a similar feel to my irons, so I ended up with a 45, same brand newer line.
Yep, newcomer/returner and high handicapper! I think getting a 56 to start is a good idea and over time I should hopefully see where the gaps fall.
