Prompted by the thread about the TV golf pundits I was wondering which sports forummers think have the best pundits.

In my post on the other thread I referred to the cricket pundits on Sky who I think are a really excellent team of top players who have been there and done it but who don't just moan about the current players. They take the time to properly explain what is happening intelligently - I particularly like the "third man" analysis - but there is also plenty of humour. And my wife just swoons every time Michael Holding starts to speak.

So who do other forumers think are the best?

I think most of the time the ex players of the sport come across a s the most knowledgeable. Is saying that Coulthard is pretty good on the F1.

On Boxnation I like Buncey. I also think darts have some very good pundits as well with Bristow etc. I agree with the cricket pundits being good as well. Hate Gary Neville as a football pundit, whoever thought rat face would make a good pundit needs sacking.

Gary Neville is a horrible bloke!!! (he may be ok in person but I still really don't like him)

I think its hit and miss with most sports, not a fan of match of the day these days, golf is great on the BBC, I know a lot dont like Alliss etc but for me its golf from my childhood

Darts is good except for Sid Waffle

Cricket top drawer, especially bumble :)

The cricket lot are superb and always entertaining. Also agree that the rugby club is excellent (despite the occasional anti Leicester comment from Barnes).

I have to say in rugby, the Sky panel and commentators are streets ahead of the BBC. For sheer all round knowledge and experience though it has to be the Sky cricket team. I could listen to Botham, Bumble, etc for ages and sometimes rain delays can be the best part of the days viewing

I find it hard to listen to many of them, they rarely bring any real insight into the commentary or are so biased towards their old teams etc. Formula 1 pit walk with Martin Brundle is the best part of any sporting event I watch simply as he is a funny guy who has been there and done is and doesnt talk like a robot.

F1 Team are pretty good. Eddie Jordan grates on me but I reckon Jake Humphries has done a top notch job and presenting the show since being asked to do it. It's obvious he's put in alot of hours learning the in's and out's of the sport and spends alot of time scripting each race. Quality work.

The cricket guys on Sky for me. Good knowledge, good humour and they have all done it at the highest level

Squash. PSA Squash TV has a couple of superb ex-pros commentating. Incredibly knowledgable and really witty with it!

Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwen who have done the British TV coverage of the Tour de France for years. The drama and excitment they put into their descriptions is tremendous. They are massively respected in the sport, and do most commentary for US channels as well, which is indicative of how well regarded they are.

Also really like the Morning Line horse racing show on Ch 4 on Saturday mornings. I don't follow racing and don't bet, but the quality is such that I enjoy watching it any way.

Agree about F1 coverage. Jake was a big F1 fan before the Beeb got the rights, and lobbied really hard to get that gig when they did. Eddie Jordan is a bit of a gobsh1te, but at least he's been there and done it, putting his money where his mouth is and setting up a successful team. DC and Brundle are great.

Sky's cricket and rugby teams are excellent - far superior to their football and golf colleagues.
