I've recently got the golf bug & having spent a bit of time at the range & 1 attempt on a course & now want to get my first set. I've looked at package sets, which do offer value for money, but I would prefer to buy everything separate so I end up with the best possible set that will last me some time. I've seen two sets of Irons & would like some advice as to which is the better of the two. The sets are the Golden Bear Power Draw Irons(2 Graphite Hybrids/7 Steel Irons,5-SW) & the TaylorMade Men’s RAC HT Irons 5-PW Steel Shafts. They are both priced very similiar & have good reviews, but do any of you have these clubs & what do you think.

Many Thanks.

My advice would be to go to your pro or a big store like AG and try absoultely loads in both graphite and steel. No need to go down the full custom fitting road but there are loads of options.

They will also be able to give you advice on which clubs you should need and which can be replaced by hybrids

Agree that you should try as many as possible within your budget. Benross have some great looking irons out at the moment (watch the equipment video on this site) that could be worth ago and MD are always great value.

As per usual, sound advice given above and I'd go along with that. If you're looking for a recommendation, I'd say the Mizuno MX19s. Sub £300 for 3 to SW, seen them for £250. Rerally easy to hit etc.

Happy hunting, it's good fun trying loads of clubs, I wish that I could do it more often but I told the wife that these should do me for a few years!

Niklaus have three grades of equipment, the 'signature' is the top, Niklaus, then Golden Bear. if you're prepared to look at secondhand clubs (fully understand if you're not), have a look round your AG. mine has a lot of sets in due to their recent money back promo so I would think the prices are 'negotiable'.

Prime rule, buy what you hit best and feel most comfortable with then buy the set/club you tested.
Part 2 of that is don't buy what you can't hit (test).

Lots of good avice here. Viscount17 is right regarding AG -its always worth haggling on their 2nd hand stock as they want to get rid of the old stock, nothing ventured nothing gained.

The Taylormade sound good, and give you the option to add the Hybrids that suit your game and as you are fairly new Hybrids are probably the better option to traditional 3 & 4 irons

TM RAC 5-PW are available at online golf for £169.....steal of the decade. If AG can match it, bite their hands off.
Add a 20 or 21 degree rescue (can cover 4 and 3 iron, please don't buy both for starters, not necessary), and you'll be in good shape. Try the Ben Sayers M8 rescue.
The last 2 AG I've been into have had some great PX kit for sale. Cleveland Gold £149, Fat Shaft irons (£60 and £80), Titleist DCi £99, all sorts. Bargains!!!
I'd certainly recommend anything Wilson staff second hand....low price new = cheaper used!!!
