Hi Guy's,

Have just looked at a set of Pings, trying G10 and Rapture. Hit both nicely, but the Rapture was a club longer with the same high flight and soft landing.

Can anyone comment on the relevant merits of either club? Is the Rapture @ £499 better value than the G10 @ £399 for the extra length, or even a set of G5 at £350?

I'm a 22 Hcap whose looking to play a lot more golf this year, with a goal of making 15 by the end of the summer.

Thanks

There has been a continuing debate on here for some time that says that Ping are probably one of the worst manufacturers for bringing new makes of club out which technologically are very similar to the superceded model, in this case the G5 and G10.

I have to say I do like the G10 and they do give a good ball flight and reasonable distance. I'm not sure how much different the G5's would be against the G10's and that is something you may want to compare so you are left with G10/5 vs Rapture.

I haven't hit any Raptures and don't know anything about them. Are they a previous model i.e. before the G5 or another brand new model. At the end of the day you need to decide wheter you are prepared to pay the extra £100 for the extra length of a Rapture or whether you want the current model (G10). Either way you will have a pretty good club in your hand. Just got to hit the bloody thing now

I have Ping G5's and absolutely love them to bits. I'm a 28 handicap but they have made a massive difference to my game and the ball flight off the face of the club is phenomenal.

Atleast give them a test drive.

I didn't even know G5s were still available. I'd snap up a set of these if I were you. Can't see anyone (other than seriously good players) regretting the sensible (£) decision.

hello every one,ive been useing the g10 irons for 4 months
now, there one club shorter than my zings but get the ball
in the air a lot better.I tend to use the 3-4 irons a lot
more than i ever did with my zings and get good distance
to.The only club im not sure about is the sand iron its
not as good as my zing. Ive got 3-sw if you do get them
get them to pw and get a sand wedge separate hope this helps

Have tried the G10s and the Raptures and feel that the Raptures are not good enough to be worth the extra money. I hit the G10s better anyway if that helps.

Doesnt matter what Ping Irons you go for they are all awesome, best clubs money can buy!

I went for the Raptures as while they were very similar (to the G5's) I liked the feeling and sound off a pure struck shot more with the former. Like a soft click off the face.

For an H/C novice (such as I am) they looked a fraction more confidence inspiring at address for some reason too.

Agreed they weren't cheap but I knew I would have them for a long time so it seemed churlish to balk at a few extra quid at that time.

To be honest i'm not quite sure which way I would have gone if the G10 was out when I was hunting around a year ago.

If you think you might want to chop them in a few years down the line then maybe the 5's or 10's make more sense.

It would have to be G10 given the choice. I have noticed though that Ping are making a big push in my local area (Bracknell, Ascot). AG at Birds Hill golf club (Maidenhead) are having a demo day with the fitting chart and all the clubs.

Downshire (Bracknell) have an advert in their window saying they now have Ping demo clubs to test (wish they had done that several months ago ) and even my pro who has limited space in his shop and has never stocked Ping before has a set of G10's and a number of the drivers in various specs.

Is this big sales push nationwide or is my area just experiencing some sort of local sales drive

Both the G5 and Rapture are designed to get the ball in the air easier, I tested both but as I hit the ball high anyway I went for the i5's. I would say the G5 and Rapture are very similar and it would be down to personal prefernce over looks & feel etc.
The G10's are excellent although in my opinion they are more of an all rounder as opposed to an out & out game improver.
If you're worried about cost get yourself a second hand set of G2's with the High Lanch long irons, most forgiving clubs I've ever hit.

I've been looking at ebay and can get a used set of G10s for around about £340, only a few quid more than the G5s!!

To be honest, I'm thinking more along the lines of G10 now (can't really justify the extra £100 for the Rapture, but it would fund a new rescue club!), but feel that my business should really go with the local Pro, even if he is £50 more expensive.

If you are going to buy clubs off Ebay, make absolutely certain that the clubs are genuine. You may save £50 but £350 is still a lot of money for a set of fake clubs that will last you a matter of weeks. Ask the seller to give you the serial number of the clubs and then check it out with Ping UK.

Golf equipment is THE most counterfeit product on Ebay.

Without a doubt I almost got cought with a set of Irons, but seller would not give me a serail number.

I have a set of Mizuno MX19's for sale if you are interested - they are a fantastic club - as good at the pings but better looking in my opinion

Hit the Ping I irons today. They look the mutts nuts but I couldn't get on with it. Tried a couple of shaft flexes in steel and a graphite version (hadn't seen Ping in graphite before only ever in steel) but nothing seemed to suit
