My wife has given me the choice of going to Wentworth or Celtic Manor. Celtic Manor is much closer and easier to get to however I believe that Wentworth will have the better field.

I've never been to watch a PGA or European Tour event so which one would you choose and why?

For the likely field I'd go with Wentworth. For me though, having been to the BMW PGA Championship twice, I would choose The Wales Open as I've never been to Celtic Manor.

You'll also get closer to the action, so better views at Celtic Manor - still behind the ropes though.

I'll be at the PGA as it's significantly closer for me.

I went to the Wales Open in 2010, a few months before they played the Ryder Cup so got the best of both worlds. Saw GMac, Luke , Jiminez etc at close quarters, plenty of space to wander about a view the action. Also, was staying in the hotel as were a few of the players so chatted to Thomas Bjorn as well as the BBC crew.

Saying all that, the field will definetely be stronger around Wentworth so if seeing the 'names' is more important than just taking in the atmosphere of a professional tournament, go there. Personally, having been to both, I enjoyed the Wales Open more as a spectator experience.

hi

have only been to the bmw (5 times) like had been said.. excellent field and a great course (the houses are not bad either)
the only disappointment, for me.. was the tented village. could be a lot more (or at least some
selling clubs and gadgets and clothing.
being sponsored by bmw it is very much bmw oriented.

whats the village like at the celtic manor?

A tough call. I was lucky enough to go to both last year and had a more enjoyable day at Celtic Manor. That may well have been because it was a perfect, hot summer's day and we got to see some great golf up close - it seemed a lot easier to get a decent spot, no matter who was coming through. I didn't enjoy Wentworth quite as much despite the field being much stronger. I'd been the year before so we knew our way around, and it was extremely busy and a lot harder to get a good spot. Saying that, the first time I went there I loved it.

If you want to see the big guns, and you've not been to Wentworth before then that is the one to go for, but Celtic Manor offers a good day out even if some of the big names are not playing. The golf will still be awesome compared to us hackers! :D

The US Open qualifier at Walton Heath is usually the Monday after Wentworth. Stay locally and combine Wentworth with this as this is a blinding day (no ropes and free to get in). Parking around a fiver.

hi

i agree, walton heath is very good for spectators. went last year to watch the british seniors. great to see the greats of yesteryears.

How on earth do you think that Wentworth isnt good for spectators. The year that David Howell won, i walked about 6 holes chatting with him on the first round ! ? You have got the 8 9 10 11 12 loop, and you can cut through to 15 16 17 18 easily from 3 and 4

I walked around Walton last year with David Howell - all 18 - and he qualified.

So there! My David Howell is better than your David Howell!
