I thinks kids should play all sports, but is there any sport that kids who want to play golf should avoid playing. I played cricket all my life before taking up golf 3 years ago. However, I still have loads of 'bad habits' from my cricket. The first two seasons, I was desperate to stop using my wrists, Even now I struggle to get a backswing, just have a good backlift.

If nipper wants to play cricket & golf, I am going to get him to bat left handed and play golf right handed...

Any other sport?

Dont be daft man

I played both sports at a very decent level and the other day played with a south african who had been a professional cricketer (batter) and a professional golfer in his time.

Just a matter of him ensuring he knows the difference between the 2 relatively early on and he'll be fine. If he learns both at a young age he will be fine, if he doesnt play golf until 15 years after starting cricket (like plenty I know) then he may struggle a bit more

I still have a great "cover drive" - trouble is I use the Driver.........:mmm:

Here's the New Zeland cricket team at the Belfry the other day... They looked decent when I watched them on the 10th of the Brab to be honest.

Boxing hasn't hindered me playing golf in any way so I don't see why MMA would cause problems?

My lad plays golf and cricket and loves them both. Last Sunday he was bowled out at 12.27 and on the first tee at 12.43! - Makes no odds to him at all. He also plays hockey quite well, rugby and football badly and has a nifty topspin in both tennis and table tennis. They are kids - let them try and enjoy everything. I do know someone who only lets their child bat left-handed in case it ruins the golf swing. Doesn't really matter since he has never been picked for even the school D team since he a)is useless at batting and b) now hates cricket.

Is it just my memory or did Tiger grow up playing baseball? - Surely a swing damaging sport if ever one existed?

Did he not have to field? Or was it a very short game ;)

Don't think Baseball is that bad a sport for then moving onto playing golf is it as many a Pro gets you to practice the 'baseball swing"

Played cricket till I was 40 then picked up the clubs and had no probs.

Team was batting second.

BTW If cricket was so bad, how does anyone explain quite how Botham got down to a 4 handicap?

Also, in view of some suggestions on here, how come Brian Close was single figures both right & left handed?

None, let the kid play all sports and find one he likes. If they play them all at a young age they'll learn to play them all properly. The only time this is an issue is if a kid plays cricket (for example) and doesn't pick up a club until they re in their twenties, by which time they aren't ever gonna make any money anyway. I played every sport I could as a kid (except cricket as I hate it) and was pretty good at most, I never had an issue distinguishing between the actions of any of them.

Was lucky enough as a kid to be allowed to try most sports. Did all reasonably well except tennis which I hated and only learned to play as mother wanted to blend in with the tennis club set. Got to a decent (ish) level of football, was a competent wicket keeper and had an affinity to golf when I eventually got to try that aged 10. Let them try what they like. Decent coaching at any sport and some application will see them get the basics right. Fromt here its about talent and hard work

Nothing wrong with MMA at all have done Taekwondo & Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for years and when I took up golf didn't hinder me at all in fact it helps with flexibility. It's also great for kids learning discipline, patience & confidence.

There isn't a single sport that I don't think kids should try even my hatred for cricket wouldn't stop me letting my kids do it.
