Mizunos, Pings, Titleists, Taylor Mades, Cobras.......

Are they so different?

Picture this...
You've made it onto the European Tour.
All the club manufacturers approach you offering everything free and loads of money to use their clubs.
Would you accept the biggest bucket of money even though you preffered another make or would you choose your favourite club which may be offering you a smaller bucket?

These clubs are, after all the tools of your trade so surely you would pick your favourite manufacturer to give you the best chance of winning loads of tournaments?
Or would you take the biggest bucket?

You need to ask Ian Woosnam, not me.

Following the cash hasn't done Tiger any harm.

I would stick with Titleist, until I was ready for the seniors tour, when I would have to switch to Ping.

(sharp intake of breath)

Oh, the big decision !!!

I am sure players would go for the one that gives them the highest profile and exposure but as we have seen in the past they dont always choose the best weapons.

That would depend Bob. If i was the "real deal" and winning tournaments was pretty much going to be a given, i would stick with what i knew and trusted to get me there.

However if this club deal was likely to be my only real payday I would whore myself to whoever showed me the most folding!!

Well quite! ;)
You'd take the cash option but sneakily get he clubs you do like rebranded with your new sponsors logo. Think Tiger and a few others have done that before? :o

You mean someone might do something like this... :D

I'd Deffo go with what I thought I'd play best with, and cant think any touring Pro would do any different ? Surely ?

My new sticks have just arrived 15mins ago via UPS, but sadly no-one is paying me

Still, looking forward to swinging them

I would go with Mizuno. I have played about 10 different sets over the past (almost) 30 years, starting with conventional blades, and I keep coming back to them.

There are a few examples of players who grabbed big money to use new clubs and whose games badly suffered.

I'd be the same as Westwood and get dunlop printed on my clothing... not! For the clubs I would go for the one I like and therefore can win all the cash.

It has worked for Tiger (^^whoever said it^^) as he is the only ever sportsman to win a billion pounds in sponsorship and prizemoney

I would take whatever Mizuno was offering

I dont think Tiger was a good example as he just used the same clubs as he used before stamped with Nike.

Bobmac please dont do that again there must be laws against writing ping on something so beautiful

Sorry didn't mean to upset anyone, but my point is if Mizunos are so good as lots of users claim, why dont more tour players use them?
Just say they are paid £500,000 a year to use Pings, but by changing to Mizunos, they could win £700,000 plus a year more... surely they would switch?
After all, £700,000 is first place in most US tournaments these days.

I read Harrington won his majors with clubs you can buy off the shelf, so does it really matter?
As long as I was happy with the clubs, the big decision would be access to the tour truck to get stuff tweaked, re - gripped etc...

I'd use any make of club. Would have to be able to change my putters brand, but apart from that I'm all about the money.

$$ CHA $$ CHING $$ CHING $$

I love mizuno irons but think if I ever was at that level it wouldn't matter what I was using because whatever it was would be tweaked for me anyway. I'd even use a K1 Speed for a few quid.

Bob

Not upsetting anyone.

Mizuno don't throw the sort of money at players that TM or Cally do. Back when club contracts was a much smaller deal, Mizuno had Faldo, Lyle, Ollie and others. Tiger played them, and as hinted above, almost still does.

Money wouldnt come into it for me tbh as if you were that good it would be in the bank anyway ;)
ps - why does the majority think Ping are rubbish :D

Because they are still breathing.

Dead people can't vote.

Tiger played Mizuno blades, and then Titleist (Mizuno copies, but not made by Mizuno, based on copies of MP14s and 29s) and now Nike. Not convinced the Nike's are any but Nike's.
