After 5 years of not playing golf I have taken up the sport again. Thanks to Sky Sports I decided it looked easier than it did a few years ago, I even convinced myself it must be down to the new technology in the clubs! How wrong I was!

I am now looking to join a club somewhere in Leeds (East preferably) so I can meet people to have around with and hopefully improve. The problem is I have been told, the member s at Garforth aren’t very friendly (I am not sure how un-friendly they are but I haven’t heard of anybody being chased out of the car park!), the course at Oulton Hall isn’t worth the cost of membership and nobody recommends Temple Newsam as it is mainly a municipal (even though some of the holes are the best I’ve played) I have been told the best way to find out what a club is like is to play the course and then go for a beer after.

Does anybody have any tips on how to find a good club to join or any recommendations on clubs in Leeds?

Thanks in advance.

Scarcroft - No joining fees
Cobble Hall - No joining fees
Both just off the ring road and both great Leeds tracks.

btw there is nowt wrong with municipals, better greens than half the goat tracks in Leeds.

I play at South Leeds full membership costs £630 per year and no joining fee's. Oh and it has to be one of the friendliest clubs in the area. I knew no one and joined on my own, I now play with a regular crew and everyone has made me feel very welcome unlike some of the more snooty clubs in Leeds.
