Hi
Well I have just started back playing golf, after a 9 yr gap, due to having a small op on my back.
I was never a great player, did get down to 18 and the odd day play to 16 but I'm starting again back at the top 28.

I'm fully fit again, but at the moment I'm not hitting the ball as far, and yesterday was told by a chap, who plays of 4 that I should get a better ball, as my Tour Edition is no good and to soft of the tee.

I do like the ball and I find it gives great feel around the green, but if its losing me yards of the tee, should I think about changing it ?? and what to ??

Many thanks

Del

Nah not really, not like changing a ball is gonna help you drive 300 yards. To be honest whats the most ditance your gonna get out of a ball? 10,20 yards? On a short par 4 it could only mean the difference between a pw or a 9 iron to the green. A softer ball gives you more control around the greens and thats where the majority of the game is won or lost. stay with a softer ball for control, dont worry about a few extra yards.

Second that - AD333 Srixon. Got a free box with my Nike irons last week and I put the balls in play for the Monthly Medal on Saturday. Tough day for scoring with the wind and rain but the ball felt great. Good distance, lots or iron control and a very soft touch off the putter blade. Recommended.

Which tour edition are you using? Spalding, Top-flite, pinnacle, click100? (only kidding with the last 2!)

Chances are it's a distance ball anyway...(I reckon).

I use a distance ball and don't mind admitting it. I don't want a ball that spins too much and every ball I hit into greens a.t.m. stops dead anyway. Come the summer, I'll change to a soft-ish ball....

I agree that the AD333 is a great ball. Would also suggest the Wilson Staff DX soft. Whilst it is still classed as a distance ball, it certainly does not feel like one and give a very reasonable amount of control.

I'm gonna throw my weight behind the Srixon AD333 as well. Great ball with good distance and feel on and around the greens too. Great performance from a budget ball.

As i was first to reply and had the 333 in mind, i should mention that is what i would go for,(and what i use) But just got back from A.G and the chap in there wreckons the Z-URS are just as good if not better, (slighly softer) and at the moment, cheaper!

In my eyes, for the whole round, there is nothing better that a ProV. Only problem is price and that they never last a whole round without sustaining severe damage.

If you don't lose a lot or are thick in the wallet go for the ProV.

Get the Pro V1x cos it'll go further. Try a set of lakeball PRO-V1x from JJb - 12 for £8. I can't tell a difference from the brand new ones, just get them, hit them in practise rounds and then if you like em, maybe then think about £33 for 12 haha
Theres bound to be a little bit of a difference but if your a solid enough striker, a balls a ball innit.

Lake balls dont last as long.

They scuff and cut up quicker and I dont believe that they fly as far.

Thecraw is spot on about lake balls. I tried them and it turned out to be false economy in the long-run.

As for scuffing my wedges gave them a bloody good hiding in no time, was lucky to get 6 holes out of NXT lake balls whereas a new one would last well beyond 18 holes.

He is right Benny I'm afraid. Lake balls are definately inferior in terms of distance. It has been proven and well documented before.

Will start a poll on it to see what everyone thinks as the good thing is that we all can voice our oppinion on it.
