Having only got back to playing again recently due to knee problems it looks like I will play a bit more than I usually would in winter.

Now the greens are sodden and the fairways getting muddy it seems pointless using Pro V1s, but what to replace them with. I guess with Titleist the alternative is the NXT tour - or is there a better option (or cheaper one!) in the other brands?

What do others switch to in winter (if at all)?

I've just dropped the prov's and z stars and gone onto Callaway HX hot. They seem to go a long way which helps in winter but not much good in summer because they are so hard.

Don't think it's pointless playing with the same ball during the winter, it's not as though we are playing balatas anymore.

Any used provs are the ones I use through the winter, I'll also try any good balls that I find or acquire. I found a penta and a Callaway i x tour that will have a little outing soon.

I have some ad333's left over from a while ago so I presume I'll use them. You never know we might have some sunshine and a few days or dryness so I might still hit a few pro V1's.

I find that the 2 piece balls give me a modicum more distance in the cooler conditions and as a wuss and close to being outdriven by Smiffy these days I need all the help I can. The payback is that they stop on the wet greens and are better to putt with on the wet greens

I generally use the Srixon AD333 in the winter,or on occasion the Srixon soft feel.

The soft fell is a ladys or junior ball

The pink version is but the green box if for guys. Soft Feel that is.

Andy

ye sorry about my typo (fell=feel) :o

I was talking to the Srixon rep and asked about the soft feel being priced the same as the AD333 and he said it was more of a high handicaper ball with a slow swing.

I just got some Wilson FG tour for the winter, I got them because i've heard they are good and they are £10 a dozen cheaper than Pentas. And a dozen will last me through till next spring at least.

There isn't a great love on here for lake balls, for various reasons, but if you normally play ProVs, you can still get the 2008 model, marked 'practice' for £25, which is an ok price.
