I bought a TM R7 driver 3 years back and was so impressed with it that I bought the R7 5 wood. I don't know what it is or how it works but the 5 wood is very difficult, there's no forgiveness and 4 out of 5 shots are duffed. So it’s finally lost it’s place in the bag and onto the shelf in the garage. Conversely I bought a Cobra Baffler DWS5 a couple of years back and that’s very forgiving with great results 4 our of 5 shots. The Cobra is great but there’s a couple of places where I need extra yardage. So which 5 wood should I buy?

No easy answer here my friend

What works for me, may not work for you.

You need to toddle off to a proshop with a range, hit some balls with several different models and different shaft options,
Until you strike gold

But the Ping G15 5 Wood is well worth a look :D

Mine! i'm knocking out a Taylormade Burner 5 wood with regular shaft in superb condition, I'm off the other way and going to a hybrid.

I’ll re-phrase the question.

We all know that the manufacturers churn out new versions of every club every few months. I’ve noticed that some stay on the market longer than others and I’ve formed the view that is because some work and some don’t. Which 2008 / 9 - 5 wood has stood the test of time and is still being sold because it’s still in demand? Or which 2008 / 9 - 19/20 degree utility is still being sold because it’s still in demand?

That will be the Ping G15 5 Wood and 20 Degree Hybrid.

Ok they came out in Mid 2009, but still on sale

Worth a look

I hit the ping 3 wood last week and couldn't fault it. I know its slightly different from the 5 wood but it did feel very forgiving and was very consistent. Its going in my bag tommorrow.

The 2009 Cleveland Launcher is a great fairway wood. Long, easy to hit and very forgiving.
Some to found on Fleabay and Golfbidder for not a lot of cash.
As with any club, get the right shaft.

I went down the cheap route and had a punt on a Benross VX Proto with the regular Voodoo shaft and it has been superb. My course has a longish par 3 that was too short for my 3 wood but my previous 5 woods would not reach off the whites. The Benross covers the perfect distance. It is now my go to club off the tee as well if the driver is malfunctioning. The head looks great as well and has a white Golf Pride dual compound grip as standard. Can be bought for under £50 now and is worth every penny.

If it's the 08/ 09 version they are awesome and well worth a look at. Ice got the 08 version and tried it against a r9 version, the r9 was cack!

I've got the 08 version and it is very good. If I could pick any I wish I could go back and get a Cally steelhead+ in regular steel shaft. Lovely small head and it went a mile

Didn't I have one of these 2 years ago? I wonder where it went. (maybe it's in the shed with the swingyde??!!)
If I could find it, and was passing, you'd be welcome to it.
