Where Would a 5 Wood Fit In?

After not having one for years I have recently aquired a 3 wood that I absolutely love. I friend of mine is offering me a 5 wood a very good price and I was wondering where it would sit in my currently bag set up (I am already full) and what the advantages / disadvantages of a 5 wood are. The one I am considering is a 19 degree with adjustability options.

I vary between the 915F 18 degree 5 Wood and 915h 18 Degree Hybrid, I find the 5 Wood better off the Tee and currently is going very well, the hybrid is more versatile in the summer when off the fairway is a bit thicker,

15° is unusually strong for a 5wood. What loft does your 3wood have? And is there a distance gap between the 3wood and the 3hybrid that you feel needs filling? Otherwise, if you like your 3wood and have no trouble hitting it off the deck, then I don't think you need a 5wood, especially not such a strong lofted one.

My 5 wood knocked my 3 hybrid out of the bag after a couple of very successful years with the hybrid.

The five wood gives a much higher softer landing flight going fractionally longer.

Apologies, just edited. These 5 wood has 19 degrees of loft!

Ah, okay, slightly different story then. In that case it could substitute your 3hybrid if you feel that a wood suits you better there. Like garyinderry suggested, it will probably give you a tiny bit more length and a nicer ballflight. Only if hit from the fairway, though (at least I personally am absolutely unable to hit woods out of any kind of rough or even semi). So if you have a tendency to miss fairways, you might be better off with the hybrid :D If you say you can buy it from a friend, maybe he will let you try it out over one or two rounds. That would be the best way to see if it fits your game or not.

i suppose it would come down to distances and what you want it for. i imagine the 5 wood will have a longer shaft than a hybrid so will prob go a bit further, up to you really.

not had a 5 wood for a fair while myself, found it great off the fairway, but i struggled with it off the tee. mind you that was almost 9 years ago and i'm a better player now and a good 7 shots lower than when i got rid. maybe i should try one again, though i love the options my 18 deg hybrid offers, esp after using a 2 iron until switching to the hybrd.

couple questions you gotta to ask

do you use the Hybrids - Adams Tight Lies 2 3H, 4H, 5H - Mitsubishi Rayon Kuro Kage Stiff well, what distances does each carry, can you use the 3H off of the tee box

do they give you the consistent gaping you need (carry) between the longest iron and the 3 metal

if not what's the issue either with using them or the gaping distances

then you can start to work out what you might need to change (if you do) and whether a 19º 5 metal maybes give a better answer

you'd also need to know the carry distances of the 5 metal, from the short stuff, the rough and tee box

Hmmm 18 h/cap?

Unless you practice a lot with it and are unusually adept with it, try dropping the 60* blob wedge. The 5 wood is probably fairly interchangeable with the 3H.
