Looking at getting fit for a new set of irons, driver and possibly wedges before summer, so where do you guys suggest? I'm in the East Midlands, travelling a distance would not be a problem for the right place. Any ideas on what sort of price I would be looking at to go and get fit? Basically looking to come away from game improvement irons, the chunkiness and the weight just does not do it for me anymore, even though it definitely helped me when needed. Looking for somewhere I can try alsorts of brands etc as I'm not brand loyal. Any recommendations gents?

I should add this would be my first custom fit, hence the advice needed..

Cheers in advance.

I'm anti mainstream and prefer the smaller companies as I think they look after you better then the major brands. So the likes of Wishon, Orka etc are just as good as Ping, Titleist and all.
But my opinion is you won't find better wedges then Icy Golf and the service you get from Ian. He does proper grinding and not the generic type that the major OEMs are offering. With his wedges you'll only need 2 and nothing more then a 56 either. Over the past 6months I've spent a lot of time practising playing various shots from chip and runs to full out flop shots with my '52*' and that's down to how he grinds them.

The Belfry is where I've been a few times.

Our club pro, Ian Walley, does several brands - Mizzy, TM, Titleist - I got driver, wedges and woods CF'd last year from him.

Took a look at both golf principles and tourx both a similar distance for me. I'm assuming how it works is, you pay for the fitting, then they order the clubs? Do you pay the lot on order? Or do places like this have finance options? Or would you finance them with the manufacturer? Just thinking irons wedges and driver is going to come to a decent whack.. Would be easier to explain to her in charge if 1000 to 1500 quid doesn't disappear all at once..

Have money at the ready. If money is tight don't do it.
