I'm currently courseless as I'm not playing as much this year but would still want to keep my handicap active. I can't warrant paying £700 if I'm only playing once a week. I'm near blackburn if that helps.
Thanks.

I would have thought that the best option would be to join a local Municipal. Most have membership options that allow you to join the club for a nominal fee, then to pay a reduced fee each time you play. Your handicap will remain active and you only really pay for the golf you play.

Hi mate apologies for stealing tis thread but are you at Old links in bolton or am i thinking of someone else on here??

Thats GJBike mate. I played it with him last year. Fantastic course... Are you thinking of joining?

Yeah looking to move either there or deane golf club (if youve ever played it?) they both offer intermediate membership for pretty much the same pice so need to decide think ill get up to old links in the next few weeks and play it :) its at the back of my girlfriends house so would be ideal in summer to pop out and do a quick 9 holes whilst the missus is cooking tea ha

Haven't played Deane, but if it's better than BOL, then it must be a cracker of a course...

Played both Bolton Old and Dean Wood (spelling).
For me Bolton Old is a much better course, played it mostly in Senior Opens, very friendly club I found.
In another life ,1982 ish ,played National Fire Service 36 hole medal and took 13 shots on the 2nd hole in the morning
round,that was one long day!

Not sure how old you are mate but if you are looking for an intermediate membership at a decent course in Bolton area try Bolton golf club. Ive just joined for this year. Im 29 and its costing me £600 which is a bargain.

If you want a game up there to have a look just let me know.

What age are you Bob, and wouldn't a 5 day membership suit you? Most courses are north of £700 and even £800 nowadays, but some have under 30, over 65 discounts. Most give 5 day options also.

Dean Wood and Deane GC are two different places. Dean Wood's over near Orrell. Deane is next to Lostock.

What about Myton Fold or Blackburn GC (think they are doing 15 months for the price of 12 at the moment)? Whilpshire do 5 and 6 day membership for less than £700. Then you've also got Accy (no idea what they are charging, but they used to do decent deals) and Rishton (less than £600 from now till March 2015!).

Bolton Old Links is a top course but it was £830 last year. All depends on how much you want to be paying to pretty much just keep your handicap going.

Just thought, have a look at Muni courses like Duxbury or Haigh Hall.
