Afternoon all.
Just sitting here having a coffee on my lunchbreak and have been humming and hawing about my 3 wood.
Now the ring is I was always a decent woods player. More because I struggled with the driver and played a 3 wood for years when I first started learning the game.
But lately and I'm sure it's technique based or even swingspeed based I only seem to get decent results from the tee.
I can get maybe 3 times the height off a tee than I can from the fairway or a decent lie in the rough.
My driver swingspeed float between 100-105mph so it's probably a little above average but it also enables me to be able to play regular or stiff shafts.
I've got a mix in my bag. Currently my 3 wood is a RBZ with a regular shaft.
Sunday was a decent example. Our index 2 I hit 3 wood from the tee. A nice high towering fade. It ran off the fairway to leave me 205mtrs into a back pin. So as it was clean and place I was able to tee it up nicely on a cushion of grass. Maybe not as high as on a tee but at least a half inch off the ground.
Same set up and swing produced a shot half the height of my tee shot but it pitched abdout 10mtrs short of the Pun and ran out the back of the green and I had an up and down from the rough to save par.
If it came in with height is have held the green.
Now from that distance to hit the green at all was a decent achievement but I wonder is it time to ditch it for more loft and maybe a 5 wood. I doubt the resultant loss of distance would be much and I would think it would be an easier club to hit for the fairway too.
What are your toughts.
