Sold a driver to a guy two weeks ago. Done the deal directly through Paypal rather than eBay to save a bit of money on the ebay fees

The guy has since contacted me tonight, two weeks after I sold him the club to say the ferrule has broken at the club head and looking for information where I purchased the club.

The club was in immaculate condition when I sold it to him.

Any idea where I stand with regards to Paypal?

I can't see there is any possible way I could be asked to refund as for all I know the guy could have been throwing the club around the course the last 2 weeks and that is how it has broken. I have passed him the details of the pro I purchased it from so hopefully it will be sorted out from there.

I'm not sure I understand your concern. He is asking where you bought it not asking you to repair or replace it. Just tell him where you bought it

Nothing to do with Paypal really. You sold it based on your description and he paid for it on that basis - effectively sold as seen. Unless the damage was done prior to sale he has no comeback on you.

If it's a problem with the manufacture tell him where you bought it and let him pursue a claim.

Can't possibly think of any reason PayPal would force a refund considering the guy has had the club for 2 weeks now and it was in mint condition as described when I sold it to him

I agree, maybe reading too much into it. I do agree it's good to be prepared but nothing to worry about yet.

I've been approached many times bout a sale through PayPal instead of eBay, I always refuse as I see eBay fees as a little bit of insurance. I do try to sell mostly around their fee free events 😀.

I think Paypal are just a money transfer service, are they like a bank where eBay is the shop.

Paypal is a bit like buying on a credit card, if the goods are faulty they will refund you (not saying the goods were faulty) and then they will recover the money.
I've had to use it before and they always seem to go with the buyer. Just a heads up more than anything as I've just bought a driver outside of ebay with paypal also

Been diddled on a piece of electronic equipment I sold on eBay once (they claimed it didn't work, but the item they returned wasn't the one I sent them). The one rule I always follow now is take plenty of pictures, send them to the buyer and get them to agree that the item arrived in perfect shape. And always, always get pictures of the Serial Numbers or any identifying marks.

If the driver was in as new condition when someone buys something then after 2 weeks of the person using it they come back and say it's faulty I am not sure how a refund can be made after they have used it for that period of time.

As I said previously how can it be proved that the item hasn't been mistreated in that 2 week window ie thrown around and that is what caused the damage.

Hopefully the pro I purchased it from will resolve the issue for the buyer

Have still got the photos on my phone with the serial number so shouldn't be an issue

Is the ferrule "broken" or simply come loose, away from the head?
If it's the latter, it's a very common occurrence, I actually re-glued 5 yesterday, all from 3 different people, all different models of irons. Certainly nothing that should start discussions about refunds.

He says the ferrule has come away from the adapter

Is it just a case of glueing it back on?
