When you watch golf on TV........

I would have to say both. While I enjoy watching the golf, at the same time I find myself watching players techniques etc and then sometimes copying them in order to improve my own game.

Although I cant recall what they were, I have picked up some good tips from watching golf that have made a difference to my own game.

I promise though that I have never tried to copy Jim Furyk or Eamon Darcy

I tend to compare whatever it is i'm currently trying to learn in my lessons with what the pro's do on tv.
And usually i see a perfect example of the thing i'm making a complete hash of!!!!!

Just watch and enjoy with a beer and marvel at the kind of shots these guys are able to play at will such as Tigers magnificent pull round the trees to within 12 feet. bloody genius.

A bit of both for me. I'm having regular lessons at the moment so I try to look for what I was taught about my swing during the last lesson. It's pretty difficult to see most of the time because of the angle but if I get a good angle I often rewind and watch in slomo (sad I know).

Just watch, marvel and think:

That is a different game to what I play at a weekend.
That course looks nothing like what I play at the weekend.

Further to Bob's question.....while watching the golf anyone have a handy putter within easy reach???? You know to recreate the piece of magic you've just seen or to just practice that reverse overlap grip???.....i know!!!

Fun you should mention that, I have been known to run upstairs at the next ad break/ interview, grab a club and rush back down to try something out.

Is that as sad as it sounds ?? :D

Phew!!!!.....thank god it's not just me!!!

No that's not sad, perfectly normal behaviour for grown men....i promise!!! ;)

I watch it all including gear and technique used, was slightly intrigued with Couples driver shaft yesterday (as well as his shoes) as it looked a bit like a steel shaft :D - sure it isn't but I kept trying to see what it was - looked like a Project X steel one? Anyone know what it is?

Er.....run upstairs??? Are the clubs not kept next to the sofa in the lounge (front room for the northerners)???
I cannot get mine in the front room for the whippets, my flat cap 'n' and bitter or Chihuahua, smoking jacket and lager top? for the southerners.

I try and pick up a few pointers especially the putting, really enjoy the players that have a smooth swing it a marvel to watch as most of us ameteurs try and hit the ball out way too hard.

Yes, I pick up pointers. For example, it's interesting to see how many of the guys at Augusta clear their left side really early in the downswing. This isn't an epiphany moment for me or anything, just watching on iPlayer and picked this up and it has made me think a little about my own swing...

Snelly.
