When to upgrade the driver

I'm playing off 12/13 consistently and I'm trying to break 80, it's hard! Playing with fairly modern clubs, apart from the driver. I'm using the Taylormade R5, is it time to upgrade?

I have always been sceptical of 'new driver technology' and thought it more important to get the swing right etc, but now I'm 11 years behind and feel I might be missing out.

Is it worth shelling out for a 2015 driver? Would it really give me any yardage?

give me your thoughts!
Sam

Can you not try some newer drivers against your R5?
Maybe a friends.

Almost certainly.
I'd be surprised if you didn't find more distance and accuracy with a new driver compared to one as old as the R5.
As a start, take yours along to an American Golf store or local pro/range that has a monitor, hit a few with yours then try a new one.
Always hit yours first to get a baseline for distances.

Hi, welcome to the forum

I'd say that it's definitely time to upgrade. I'd say to get a proper Trackman fitting as it'll be to your absolute spec. As far as I've been told driver claimed extra distances are based on 3 models back, the clubs are, I believe, much more user friendly.

Please let us know what you decide, write up about the fitting process and how successful it all is

If you have the cash it's worth investing in a good fit, clearly you don't change very often.

You will find more forgiveness but probably not much distance over best hits.

Go out and see what you can find.

Unless it's your putting that is holding you back...
