I’ve been playing seriously now for 6 months and have madedo with second hand set of Mizuno MX20 T-Zoids irons, 3-4 yr old TaylormadeBurner Driver and a wonderful Ping G5 3w.

Think it’s time to invest in some better hardware and particularlyinterested in the Ping range (partly due to my good experience with the G5) butwhen should i buy?

I don’t want to shell out a load of my well-earned to begreeted a week later by the new release offering "another twenty yards anda kiss off Pamela Anderson"

Are clubs / ranges released at certain times (beginning ofthe season?) or is it just pot luck?

Thanks
Tom

Tends to be either Autumn or early Spring... mainly the latter to coincide with the new season.

You can drive yourself nuts trying to work out exactly when the "best" time is to upgrade, but the truth is the best time is when you can get a good deal and they can crop up any time.

In Spring, yes, you might have the choice of the latest models, but they'll all be sold at pretty much RRP for the first few months as manufacturers frown on suppliers heavily discounting new ranges.

The flipside of that though is that last year's models will suddenly be less in demand and so are likely to be discounted more. Check out some of the big online retailers to see what I mean... some amazing deals on the older models of TM and Callaway to be had.

TBH, new models always claim to be the mutt's nuts that will revolutionise the game, but in reality tend to be only an evolution of what's gone before. No harm in looking for older models from the top manufacturers - you'll get a lot of club for your money.

If you can wait a while, new year sales may be your friend as the stores get rid of stock ahead of the arrival of 2012's next big thing...

Hope that helps. :)

Thanks Monty, great advice.

Kind of thought the new models would be trumpy when first released and I’m nowhere near a level where finer details are going to make a difference.

thanks again

I think this is a good time of year to upgrade. Gives you a couple of months to get use to the new bats. I always upgrade around this time of year as I do not want to walk up to the first tee in a medal with my shiny new driver not really being 100% on what it is gonna do. Also like has been said there are some good bargains to be had in the months coming up to the new releases.
